Steering wheel audio control covers
Hey guys
I have an aftermarket HU and the sterring controls no longer have a use for me. Id like to get rid of them or cover them or something like that. Does anyone make any kind of cover or blank replacement for them?

replace your entire steering wheel! grant makes some nice ones and of course momo. You can pick up a decent one for around $100. Why wouldnt you want them anymore? if i were you i would be trying to figure out where to buy the kit to connect them. My 99 trans am has a stock stereo in it and the buttons dont work and ive always wished they did i couldnt imagine getting rid of them on purpose.

search the audio forum. THis topic has been brought up like a million times. I myself started a thread I forget the companies name but, yes you can keep the buttons and make them functional with an aftermarket h.u. ALso check out HUmount.com I beleive they make the sickest hu adaptors on the planet. Best of luck!

Pax Converter
Pax makes a converter to allow your steering wheel controls to work with your aftermarket unit. I have an Alpine screen with working steering controls thanks to PAX Converter. Any audio shop will carry it.

You mean PAC
The PAC SWI-X is a universal IR unit, but they also make model specific units.
EX: PAC SWI-PS works with Pioneer headunits that have a provision for a wired remote.

i know about pac and all that, but im trying not to become lazy to the point where leaning to turn the volume up is a pain
i was just wondering if anyone has gotten rid of them with some kind of cover. a new wheel is also an option.

Removing the airbag is technically illegal since it's removing a federally mandated safety device. You could however get a 98 Camaro wheel and airbag since they didn't have the steering wheel controls on them. I think some of the stripper model cars may not have had steering wheel controls either.
