Pontiac GTO 2004-2006 - Thermostat?

Anyone know if the thermostat isthe same in the 04 gto as the f-body's or corvette?I know they changed the water pump on the gto's but what about the thermostat

Problem is the local car parts stores dont carry alot of parts for the gto's so i end up using f-body parts..like i bought i starter for a f-body and it works... but i know the water pump is a little different then the f-bodies...

Some early GTO's used the F-body thermostate. Most of the GTO's use a replaceable thermostate that does not require replacing the neck.

may I also suggest that you use a compatible 160F thermostat. The standard tune on the LS1 runs them a bit hot. It is a very popular mod over here for guys in the tuning scene.

Speaking of which. You guys might be able to help me out. Is there any good online shops in the US for getting a 160F Thermostat for the LS1. They're a bit hard to come by over here?

Hey guys im new to the site, well been reading it for months but just regestered today. i was wondering if anyone knows if there are diffrent size thermostates, i ordered a 160 and tryed to put it in today but the diameter is bigger than my stock. I have an 02 TA and the only thing i can think of is the LS6 block having a diffrent diameter, anything to help would be great Thanks

I found a 180 t-stat which i installed. any 04 c5 corvette part will match an o4 goat.
a 160 t-stat without a tune will keep the motor in the cold loop. at the end of the day it's not day though, but may screw up the pcm as it will never get out of that loop...

The stock program goes into closed loop at 131F. Tell me the engine stays that cold with a 160 T-stat and you'd be wrong. Even in 30F weather, it'll run at 180+F.

It'll run perfectly fine with a colder t-stat.

And if you installed a 180 t-stat, you were wasting your time. Stock is 184-186F.

On mine stock hovers right around 190F, almost exactly.
Closed loop is around 140, might be a little lower, cant remember.
But, if you dont change the fans on/off temps, a lower t-stat does nothing in hot conditions. Only makes your engine run colder...when its colder out and you don't want it cold.

The owner's manual sez it stays in a cold loop at 160 or less and won't kick in the CAGS. The Holden Monaro book I bought (a chilton's version from down under) sez the running temp is 190-195. I was only going by what the book said and the guy I know at GM who introduced Monaro over here as a GTO three years ago.

Instead of guessing I looked up a stock 04 GTO bin, its enters closed loop @ 131F ECT.
Its higher if the air intake temp is very cold though. Rob FTW.

Which a 160 t-stat will easily hit.

Is the 05 and 06 set for closed loop at the same temp?
