Default 1/4 mile difference Bone Stock + 4000 Stall?

I am looking to possibly do this with a completely bone stock LS1. If I add a 4000+ stall, what kind of time difference could I see?

Another vote for 1/2 second drop - but no way on crappy tires.

No way are you going to see .5 to .8 on a STOCK car. All the cars who chimed in have mods...

On a bone stock car on stock tires, stock cam, tune, etc. you might gain .2, maybe .3 at best. You DO NOT do a 4000 stall on a stock car. Only when you have a BIG cam and other supporting mods do you even onsider a 4000 stall.

For a stock car, get a P.I. 2800 converter, nice daily driver all aound converter.

I don't agree with the above post. 4000 is excessive for a stock motor LS1 but it can be there when you need it later.

And it CAN drop you by half a second in the 1/4 mile if you are inclined enough to put a decent set of tires on.

If you aren't a ***** you'll go with 4000. Hell I DD and I run 4500 with 3 gears.

4000 might be a little extreme for a completely stock car, but we can assume you aren't going to keep it that way, so a 4000 should be fine, but I would recommend something close to 3000-3500.....Look for about a half second decrease in the quarter, but the more mods you do the more the stall will be helping you...

a vig 3200 would be awesome in a stock car. But then again, a stall will act differently depending on the power output of the engine it is mated too. A higher HP combo will stall any given converter more than a lower HP.

I cant agree w/ this either, I dropped .7 w/ a 3500 on a bolt on car. Although your recomondation is great for a street car that will not get many more mods. Doesn't a PI 2800 actually flash to about 3200 anyway?
I say you should get at least .6 - .7, and up to a full second on a sticky tire.
The fastest SI guys are running ~5k stalls for a reason...

I have a Vig 2800 in my truck & behind the LS2 it's only flashing 25-2600 .. (I asked for a 3600 and got talked down to a 3400 & somehow I got this one? , soon to be corrected, otherwise )

I would say a 32-3400 in your car would be a great gainer and not be too bad on a DD basis, if you like the stock converter, yeah you'll know it's there, but a couple weeks later it will feel normal to you..

One more to say this is BS.

I dropped .4 while still running stock cam, manifolds, etc. This was with 4200 stall. No BIG cam as this guy claims is needed. But like someone else said.....most plan on doing other mods, so why not do the converter once? Get the one you want and leave it be.

Those that talk the most **** about big stalls not being streetable.....have in most cases....never driven one.

OK OK...you guys all know more about converters than me obviously....I said a TOTOALLY stock car, as the starter of this thread said, will NOT pick up .5-.8 in the quarter on STOCK TIRES>>>>>>>period.

Converter is a great mod, the best one for the money in my book....I have gone through PI 2800, PI 3400 multidsic, Yank 4000PT, Yank SS3600, and Yank PT3800. I run bottom 10's (9's probably now that I go thte converter issue figured out).

Again. in a TOTALLY STOCK CAR WITH STOCK TIRES A 4000 STALL CONVERTER IS A HORIBLE CHOICE AND WILL NOT GAIN .5-.8 IN THE QUARTER. TOTAL MISMATCH, CONVERTER WILL BE WAY TOO LOOSE, WILL RPOBABLY FLASH TO 3600 OR SO, AND SHIFT EXTENSION WILL BE WEIRD TO SAY THE LEAST.

Would I do it? YES if I planed on doing more mods soon. Without a cam, tune, other supporting mods, a 4000 stall is just too damn much converter.

The fact that you have had to swap out 5 converters.....you might be right.

Once again.....a cam is not required to run a 4,000+stall. There were two Stock Internal guys that ran 10's with 4400 converters. Plenty more on that list over 4,000. Personally I ran 11.7 stock internal with 4200 and NO computer tuning.

Maybe I should have swapped to a 2800 so I could run faster......

5 converter over different engine combo's

the cars you mention are NOT stock, just because they are stock cam, does not mean STOCK. 4000 is too much for a daily driven STOCK LS1 car...period. Not a good combo. I know with all supporting mods, light weight, etc. you can run real good, BUT again....on a totally stock f-body, down to tires and tune, a 4000 stall is not a great choice at all, and will not get .5-.8 in the quarter...period. I don't car about cars with every ******* mod EXCEPT cam, etc. I am talking totally stock because that is what the poster said.

i consider my car almost stock, and even though i cant make a good 1/4 mile pass, my 1/8th time dropped by almost half a second on street tires with the only thing changing being the converter, untuned for all runs....
