Default Cam Install What Else Should I Do While It's Apart?

Ok I just bought the tr224/224 lsa114 cam package

1 CAMPK-S Thunder Racing LS1 Cam Swap Package $599.99 $599.99
Gaskets: No Gaskets
88-VSR103-T Retainers: Titanium Retainers $129.99 $129.99
Year: 2001-2005
99-TR224/224-114 Cam: 99-TR224/224-114
Thanksgiving Sale -$73.00 -$73.00

I also won a SLP double roller timing chain off of ebay. Is there anything else I should put in while the car is some what apart? I was thinking underdrive pullys but I have heard they are more of a hassel then they are good. Also do I need to replace the gaskets when installing a new cam or can I get away with just replacing the harmonic balancer bolt? I have about 5k on the engine. Thanks for the help.

Is anyone familar with CA smog? Would I have a chance at all passing smog with the tr224/224 lsa 112? I just placed the order so I am sure I could still change it.

Oil Pump ( Have to take it off anyhow)
If 98-> 99+ Water Pump Gaskets If 99 and no cuts, ok to re-use
Front Seal (Depending on how many miles you have, if you re-use it you'll leak)
I'd also get a UD Pulley since you have to remove the stocker anyhow.

The 224 cam is the biggest smog-legal cam you can use. Provided you program out the random cylinder misfire code. I do recommend the oil pump since half of everything you need to remove is going to be off anyway.

Hey I am not motto but hip hip hooray for the marine thing. I am stationed out on Marine Corp base Hawaii. Unfortunately I also have to put up with smog laws of Cali, let me know how this cam works out for ya. If your results come out better than expected with the smog regs than maybe I will go steeper, who knows! Well, take it easy fellow teuful!

I may be wrong but doesn't he have to machine something on the damper so the double roller will fit?

*I* think double rollers are overkill for a street car app. If you use the search engine there have been a few guys that have broken the double roller (Only seems to happen to M6 cars and seems to be a harmonic issue) I can't recall reading a single thread of anyone breaking a LS2 chain. You can use the difference towards the UD Pulley... just my .02c

I just installed my MS3 and put in an LS2 Timing chain i don't think with what your installing your going to need a double roller, but if it helps you sleep better at night then its all on you. I also got the TSP Ported LS6 oil pump, i see it as your already there so you might as well.

I paid 35.99 from Texas Speed for the LS2 chain. As long as the Double roller is NIB i'm sure you can get close to what you paid for it... if not return it...

You can't beat a ported Ls6 pump and LS2 chain. They are both priced very well and its extra insurance if you have a high miled LSx engine.
