Default So I Want To Build A 396 For My 94 Z...

Ok I Bought This 94 Z28 Recently, Its Got Pretty Decent Power, But I Just Want Alot More!!! I Know I Can Build This 396 Shortblock Easy, But Im Not So Sure About The Cam, Heads, And Intake To Go With It. I Hear That After Stroking An Lt1 They Dont Last Long... I Need It To Last Atleast 100k... Any Ideas For Reliable Outrageous Power In An Lt1? A Complete Setup Example Would Be Greatly Appreciated

100k.....maybe.

Depends on what your goals are.

Do you have a certian E/Ts that you would like to acheive?

Or do you just want a fast street car?

i think 100k is a pretty high expectation for any high performance engine. but im sure it possible if you dont have any power adders like nitrous or forced induction. as for heads, cam, intake. there is a whole list of options you can do. anything from mild to wild. give us more info on the hp range you want. i would do a LE or AI ported Trickflow head, w/ ported LT-4 Manifold, and Custom ground Brett Bauer cam.

I wouldn't go with a 396, it's easier to just build a 383 and the power difference will be negliable between the two.

You need to establish goals for the build..You want something to last a while which for me would mean no power adders and not winding the thing to the moon to make power. That being said, a 383 or 396 would be a good choice provided you choose the right parts...I know I only spin to 6300 with my small cammed 383 and have 12 years an 47000 miles on it still going strong...so much for longevity problems when you stroke the motor...

What do you want to accomplish? Street/strip? auto cross or drags? Daily driver? A4 or M6? What does outrageous power mean to you? How fast do you want to go?

you can get a nice head and cam package from lloyd and put 400hp to the wheels without touching the bottom end..if all you want is na 400hp I wouldnt open the bottom end untill it is required

i agree with the post above me. lloyd elliot or ai do great portwork to the stock heads, and you will see 400 rwhp. once the bottom end goes, then do a build. but you need the supporting mods, like full exhuast, cold air intake, throttle body, yada yada. then you will start breaking rear ends and all that fun stuff lol.

Don't rule out E.B. Porting...Eric does some great port work, too and he talks to Joe Overton regularly if you want a nasty cam...

If you want 400 horsepower -- you can just spray your car now and you'll have near that.
