Motor's got 13k and was originally from a stock factory z06. recently i've noticed a tapping noise coming from the driver's side of the motor. it comes and goes and the car drives absolutely fine. my low oil light came on the other day and i checked the stick. i was about 2 quarts low. i guess the cam is eating a lot of oil? it had only been 1500 miles since i got the motor put in. does a cam eat up oil faster or what? so i added 2 quarts of 10w-30 synthetic, what was originally used in the car, and i noticed the car was running a lot better. i guess it just needed oil? is the mixing of old and new oils bad? do i need to completely change my oil soon?

did you use lock tight on the rocker bolt when you did the cam?

Cams eat oil? How so?

I'd say the low oil could've just been lifter tick due to not getting enough. If you think it's ping, go run higher octane.
