Default Attn. Tony Mamo: Saw An AFR205 Setup Make 502rwhp/450rwtq...

Tony,

I've just been reading your posts on this site for a while, and I thought that you might be interested in this.

I was on the LG website, and found the plot below of an AFR205, Fast 90, LG Pro LT, G5X3 setup that made 502rwhp and 450rwtq.

http://lgmotorsports.com/gallery/dis...?album=3&pos=2

In one of your previous plots, you mentioned that you wished you had put a big "thumper" cam in your old 346 setup, to see just how much you could push out of it. Well it looks like Lou and his customer did just that. Maybe LGM can respond to this post with some more details?

Anyway, in one of my previous posts I noticed that some of the latest 500rwhp big cam TFS setups seemed a bit low on TQ compared to the AFR205's. I think that it is very impressive that those heads put out the big power and the big torque numbers. Good job.

LG Motorsports definately have the parts to make you go fast. How fast is up to you. "where money buys speed" I like the newest slogan, "we race, you win" +1 to Lou for coming up with a great series of cams.

Looks streetable to me. The G5X3 isn't too big.

I'm pretty sure that was Jim Sharp's old h/c setup (2001 Z06).

He now has the G5X4 cam, and in it's current configuration dyno'd at 506 rwhp at LG's shop.

His setup is a forged 346, AFR 205s milled to 59cc, Fast 90, LG G2 TB, LG pro LT headers, EWP, ASP UD pulley, 3.90's

As for streetable, I've driven his car (with the X4). It drove very nicely and easily, with almost zero bad manners, and that little test drive is what sealed my decision to stick the G5X4 in my Vette....which I just did last week.

***edit, nevermind, I just looked at the graph and that was an 03 Z06...But, Jim had very similar numbers (502rwhp) back when he had the X3 cam in it.

I guess the specs on the G5X3 are "classified", and I understand that However, my guess is that it is up around 236/240, 112-114, .59/.59, but what do I know. My 2002 Z06 is still stock ... for now

I've heard that the G5X3 does drive fine with a tune, assuming you keep her up over 1500rpm. Sounds like my old 1991 LX with a cam. After a while you get used to driving it at a higher rpm, and you don't really notice the bucking that much. Going to a higher number/lower gear also helps out. I'd consider putting 3.90's in my Z06 if I went with a G5X3 class cam. Of course, I'd also have to have a friend at the emissions station as well, here in Northern VA.

I'm proably relegated to the G5X1E, which I've seen put down 445-452rwhp, and 425-435ft*lb on this board and others, without the Fast 90. I'd love to see results on that cam with a ported tuned Fast 90. I think the G5X1 is around 228/232, but I'm guessing the G5X1E specs are also a secret :-)

Hey Jub Jub, I like the specs on your cam - 226/230, 114. What is the off idle response of that cam? Can you take your foot off the gas after slipping the clutch, and let it just pull you along in traffic close to idle, or will it start bucking after a while? Thanks for the info.

Later.

Just another reason as to when I take the time to invest $$ in heads.. theyre either going to be ported by myself, or AFR.

Amazing numbers on a H/C setup.

LG has some very good products to say the least. I also believe that Jrod in Tommy's car has made similar numbers with the G5X3 and all of the bolt ons.

I don't know about that "low torque" number with TFS heads. On my original dyno run, I hade 350 ft/lbs. from under 2500, and a peak of 428, with only a 228/232 cam, and stock intake.

Did everyone see the g5xx cam results. More power was definately available with more RPMS. That cam isn't streetable at all though.

the G5XX is a race only cam with a 1400-1500rpm idle. the cam peaks around 7700rpms meaning you'd be shifting around 8100rpms...

That's a pretty healthy idle. Probably needs every rpm to keep from stalling out huh.....I couldn't imagine how wicked an 8100 rpm shift would be especially through an LG Pro Longtube header setup with no cats and a no muffler catback like the billy boat Bullitt system. Pure Evil

I could only dream !!! Must be one hell of a good valvetrain to handle those kind of rpms. Not to mention damn good bottom end. Probably sounds like a V-8 Hayabusa. LOL !!!

they actually had the G5XX cam in a stock bottom 346ci with AFR 205 heads, ARP rod bolts and LG Pro Lts, and supporting bolt ons, the C5 made 540rwhp and ran high tens @ 140mph, but the motor only survived a few weeks with that cam in there. With that cam, you'd definately need a built bottom end.

Will either the G5x3 or the G5x4 require flycutting with the AFR 205's?
