Default Beehive springs, good, bad?

I'm getting ready to replace the springs that came with the AFR 205 heads and I like the looks of the beehive. They seem to be just what the doctor ordered in helping keep valve train weight to a minimum, thus reducing valve bounce, harmonics, etc.

Is there a general consensus out there as to whether or not these springs are any good?

there is nothing wrong with them because your factory springs are beehive. I had some 918s break on my ta so that could of been a bad deal. I now use duals. A little more protection

Thanks.

I understand about the duals offering more protection but I'm pretty easy on my springs and I like to change them often.

I was just curious about things like valve float on a fairly aggressive cam lobe.

918's are a great spring for cams under .600 lift.

One other option is the PSI beehive spring. It is stiffer than the 918 and will set up on the seat with about 135 lbs at 1.750" installed height. I think the k value is 384 lb/in. Titanium retainers are 6.6 grams for these springs.

These are what I am using on my LS7 cam install (650" lift.) PSI 1511ML. ML is for max life, a coating to improve durability. Install height: 120# @1.800" 370# @ 1.150" coil bind 1.100". Katech did comparison testing on a bunch of springs for their LS7 package and this is what they use. You can get them from them or CV Products.

Yes, these are the same valve springs that come on the Dart out of the box heads. They are nitrided for longer life.

That is correct. We use beehive springs on all of our street packages. They have been validated on our Optron valvtrain dynamics test cell and provide the best valve control far beyond the redline.

I have 38,000 + miles on a set of PRC platinum duals with a .600 lift cam .. I like the peace of mind that the duals provide and I obviously don't change them often ... they are going to be changed in the next few weeks to a
Comp Cams 921 dual spring for use on a cam with higher lift (.637\.639) ..

So far, everthing seems to point in the direction of the beehives so it seems these would be the right choice for my small cam.

I wonder what Tony has to say about them? (hint hint)

Mostly street, occasional drag (I think this is probably the most common driving that most of the guys here do).
