Default CC306, 3500 TC, and 3.23's

Will running 3.23's with this set up cause any issues? I have a new posi and some 3.73's but im not going to have the extra cash to get them installed till about febuary.

Ive been told that the cc306 likes a higher stall than a 3500. I have a yank 3600 convertor and I went with a cam that Larry at speed inc. suggested I get. Its a comp custom ground cam. I imagine that someone on the boards is running that setup tho, im sure they will chime in

Yeah if you are running that cam, run more gear. Otherwise run less cam.

actually my car went faster w/ 3.42s than it did with 3.73s as long as I was running 26" tires. I had a 4000 stall but it was REALLY tight... only footbraked to 1900 so comparing the converters is impossible. My car was also a 383 which had a gorgeous tq curve which led to the car going faster with less gear... just depends though... Hard to say which gear is better without testing them.

Well it looks like i will run the 3.23's for about a week then stick the 3.73's in along with my new posi and stick with that.

Foot braking is a bad measure for a converter. My Vigi 3200 will footbrake to about the same as probably would a stock stall, all foot braking determines is how strong the brakes are and at what RPM the engine will over power them and allow the wheels to move which will often be well before any true stall speed on a big converter.

my fuddle cuts 1.64-1.66 with a 306 cam...no suspension, and stock heads/block, but its only a 3200 that it with 3.73

well aware of this, but it was as tight as a converter will get to be a 4000 stall... flashed to about 3500 on launch... t-braked to about 33-3500. I sprayed the car and it picked up 27 MPH in the quarter, so it wasnt a sluggish loose converter like a yank is. (speaking from experience please dont jump on me if yalls yank converters are not loose) It did do better with the looser converter though. You prolly will need a loose 3500 stall or bigger as your power band is going to be higher up in the RPM range... which thinking of that the 3.73s might be better for you. Like I said, it is impossible to get a setup perfect w/o some trial and error, but 3.73s and a fairly loose 3500 would be bout right

Well im definalty going to put the 3.73's in but it may just take a few weeks...my 3500 will more than likley be loose since its from TCI. They tech said ti should flash up to about 3800 so i think i will be good. I was just wondering how it would run with the 3.23's for 2 weeks or so.

daniel, did you have any surging issues with the 306? How high do you spin your motor and who did your tune if you dont mind me asking.
