Default Transmission pan leak..

So I noticed some transmission fluid on my pan and checked it out..looks like the stock gasket is working its way out? Probably from over-tightening of the bolts, I assume?

Or is it normal for a small part of the gasket to stick out maybe a quarter of an inch from the pan?

mine used to stick out a little bit along the edges. never leaked though. i'd get a replacement rubber gasket like the ones jegs sell with the b&m filter kit. or, if you're up to it get a deep pan since it comes with a gasket and drain plug. the bolts that come with it have lock washers so you know when they're tight enough, no worry about going to little or too much.

Replace it with the black felt/fiber type (as comes in the ATP or WIX filter kits);
this type of gasket expands and seals wherever ATF comes in contact with it;
and it won't squish out if you overtighten the pan bolts (which you shouldn't have to).

Also, be sure to properly clean the pan and case mating surfaces,
and be sure the pan bolt holes don't stick up (carefully hammer them down).

Where can I buy those types of gaskets?

You have to order them (a filter kit) thru the smaller performance-oriented parts stores or speed shops (e.g. I get mine from Tops in Anaheim CA);

Parts Plus and Napa may do it.

Pepboys and Autozone may not do it.
