Default 6L80E Swap

Has anyone looked into doing this in a F-body? Think it would be a good alternative to a M6 swap. What are the major differences between the 4L60/80E and 6L80E?

Default 6L80E Swap = not likely

I recently had the opportunity to attend a GM transmission
sales conference that just so happened to be located at the
only GM authorized remanufacturing facility for the new 6L80E.
I had to ask the plant operator the same question.
He proceded to stop the assembly line, and proceded
to show me the transmission control unit that is located
INSIDE the transmission.
He then explained that that the shift solenoids are not
applied in a simple on/off fashion like the 4L60E and 4L80E.
The trans control module and the PCM inside the car
communicate with each other to establish what type of
shift needs to occur based on real time operating conditions.
The module has full dynamic control of the shift solenoids.
It tells the solenoid to open to a certain percentage of
capacity (0%-100%) for a certain length of time etc.
The biggest challenge that I see is the lack of software
support to "reflash" both the PCM AND the trans control module.
Hopefully the aftermarket will step up and hack the software
and offer a solution to this problem.

If you could get a MVB for one, then you probably wouldn't need any of the solenoids and/or software.

I had the same inclination to change the tranny, but I also want to change the engine, and I think if I get the re-sleeved LS2 I want, and find the ECM out of a new Vette, that would fix the problem with the software meshing with the transmission, but it might cause other problems in my T/A's electrical system. What we need is an aftermarket company to make an extra module that adds on to the ECM of a stock F-body to facilitate the communication between the tranny and the car, and make it able to be tuned separately from the ECM to allow adjustment of the shift points, etc. without changing anything else.
