General Maintenance & Repairs - I love this midwest Weather! - Heater

Well this morning I let my car warm up to operating temperatures in the garage. No issue... heat blowing warm... I get moving down the road and according to the temperature gauge the temp drops 80 degrees.

Yay.... looks like I get to do a thermostat swap.

how much snow did you guys get
Here in Edmond (just north of OKC) we got 10" needless to say the car has not left the garage

I feel bad for you guys. At my house it's 74 degrees today and I'm walking around in shorts.

Now for the question. If the engine doesn't reach operating temperature, it usually means the thermostat is opening too early. Get a new thermostat.

We didnt get much snow, 2 inches at most... it was the sleet that sucked.

I expected to have to do a thermo swap...but the issue isnt that it doesnt get to operating temp, its that driving down the road with temps in the teens, and the car doesnt hold its heat.... the temp lowers dramatically.

Heater still blows warm air, just not as hot. I think its a thermo that is stuck open.

I have the same problem, but with my LT1.

I had a 160 t-stat in the summer/fall. Now with winter here in Chicago, I put the stock degree t-stat back in and the car doesnt even get good heat. Just warm air. I flushed my heater core and it was fine. I hope I dont have a air pocket. Other than that I am not sure what else to do.

Ya this past week sucked in the DD for me. Stupid little 4 cyl, I dont even think my t-stat has to open up the car doesnt get hot at all. If I wasnt having issues with the camaro I would drive it just so I could have heat

Hey I noticed last winter that I had the same problem. I haven't even started my car in two weeks but I'm sure the problem still exists. Let me know what you find out.
