you can actually get pretty nasty with a cam and still drive it everyday. the key word is TUNING if you can get a good tune you are set. and when you buy a cam some places have cam packages. that come with springs retainers locks and all the other goodies u will need

Cam choices are far too subjective. Go find some local guys that have a couple different cams and check out the cars. Maybe theyll even take you for a quick ride. Make sure you consider weather they have a good tune or not. A bad tune will make driving the car a chore.

Hope this adds to your knowledge...
Everyone above made good points. You need to speak to a sponsor to get the whole package sorted out, and the tune will be key regardless of the actual cam specs.
Before I went twin turbo, I had a Lunati 236/236-112LSA with 0 advance.
It sounded like a demon at idle and screamed like a beast moving through the gears... but it wasn't tuned so it took a while to settle down when it was started (hot or cold), it had cam surge at about 1,800 rpm or below, etc.
Then I got it tuned and picked up 40 rwtq and 38 rwhp with gains all across the board!
It idled smoother (raised idle to 900) and the cam surge didn't start until you dipped below 1,500 rpm... not to mention that you can feel an extra 40hp when you mash it.
It ended up with 421rwhp in the end (cam only, pulley,Shaner tb,headers,ORY)
