Default GTO Oil Pan

ok so i received my GTO oil pan today and it made me raise a few questions. i see how GM rerouted the oil passage for front sump but there is a place onthe side where the F Body oil filter thing would be. is this so you can run rear mounted filter setup? also the oil pickup. its oval shaped with 50% of it closed off. will i gain any thing by cutting it out completely in an attempt to fight oil starvation? i assume GM designed it like this for a reason so i dont want to reverse engineer anything.

I don't think I'd mess with the pickup....Look at the size of the ports in the block, the pickup is huge compared to them.

The place on the side can be used for an oil cooler, an oil pressure gauge, a remote filter, or probably some other usage (like a pressurized oil reservoir or something).

The F-body filter mount is integral to the pan (just like the GTO, trucks, and Vettes) anc can't just be installed there.
