Default adj fuel pressure regulator question

i bought a brand new holley adj. fuel pressure regulator, but nowhere does it say wether it is preset at 0psi, or 43 psi (close to stock).... does anyone know what they typically come set at?

You shouldnt even bother installing that without a pressure gauge to properly set it. They are never shipped 'pre-set' at anything.

You wasted your money there. I would not even use it. If you do use it, however, most LT1s we see here stock have 45 to 47 psi, running with the vacuum hose off. Ignore the people that tell you to set it to 42 or 43 psi.

ive been told to run with a 60psi setup with 30lb injectors, and i have a gauge already but its quite fluctuant and you cant really be too precise with it, i just didnt know if they came preset or not.

i thought the same but i asked a person and he said that @ 60psi on a 30lb injector, it would be the equivelant to running a 42lb injector, so i guess he was being legit.

60 is waaaaay to high, id make sure it read 42 PSI +/- 1-2 psi with Key On Engine off, then go from there, put a load on the motor and see how the pressure is.

Like I said, an LT1 should be set to 45/47psi with the hose off. Not 60, not 42.

To get the new flow rate at a new pressure (say 3bar = 43.5psi), you need to calculate the square root of the pressure ratio.... example:

Pressure ratio = 43.5 / 39.15 = 1.1111

1.1111^0.50 = 1.0541

New flow rate = 30 x 1.0541 = 31.62 #/Hr

You may also find that the flow ratings are "nominal".... the stockers for example, are quoted as 24 #/Hr, but they are programmed at 24.9 #/Hr.
Using these formulas, a 30lb SVO injector at 60 psi equals a 37.14 #/Hr flow rating, not 42 #/Hr. It can be done, but you need a serious fuel pump to keep up with that kind of a demand.

With the hose off, it is simulating WOT. That works out to be anywhere from 41-47 psi. It's not that the Holley apfr is junk, it's the increased pressure. For one, it makes the car much harder to tune.

You should have the same @ WOT as at idle with the hose off.

Adjustable regulators are just not needed. Tuning your fueling with one is just a hack. Higher fuel pressures are hard on pumps, and the main reason why LS1 vehicles and Vortec trucks (which run about 60 psi) have so many pump failures.

Use a stock regulator and buy the correct size injectors.
