Default ported 98 heads

I may be purchasing 98 ported heads in the for sale section here and wanted to know what gains to expect from ported 98 heads.
My mods are:
lid,slp maf,ported tb,ls6 intake,hedman LThedders,ory,dynomouth,TR224/112cam,and TCIssf 3500 stall
I put down 350 rwhp.
So what can i expect with ported 98 heads to this set up
thanks
john

It depends on the ported heads & the tuner, my Cartek stage II 98 heads & cam in my 6-speed vette was dyno'ed at 399 RWHP. I have all the bolt-ons. I know others that had the same package and their dyno'ed results were similar. With an auto, it probably will be a little less. Ported 98 heads will flow better than stock LS6 heads, but it depends on the port work.

1998 heads ARE NOT junk. You could expect the same gains from 806 castings as you would expect from 241 castings- when both have been fully ported. The differences in port accuracy and surface finish will be removed by the porter, and the differences in flow will be zero. More important than the casting # (or year) is the quality of the port work.

I would suggest removing the stock 1998 valves from those heads, and upgrading to the later model LS1 intake valves and 5.3L truck exhaust valves. If your budget permits, aftermarket valving would be a good option.

Again, the 1998 heads are NOT junk. They flow less than the '01+ heads, but if you swapped the valves from the '98 to the '01 heads the flow improvement would be marginal.

There are several reasons the '01/02 cars ran better than the '98s in stock form. Cylinder heads is one item of a list comprising more important parts; better intake, more efficient exhaust manifolds, better catalytic converters, etc.

Yep, if you have your choice in stock castings without port work... pick the 241 heads! Just like you were saying.

Once fully ported, it changes.

I have to agree with studytime here.

The 241s were SPM cast instead of sand cast which made for a smoother finish stock for stock.

patriot have a good deal on the 243s unported for 425$ asembled, they will out perform or will put similar numbers to a ported 806 and u still have the chance to port them in the future.

what heads did ordered by the way from TSP ?

Well, considering that ported set of ported 806 heads has 300 cfm potential vs. 260cfm from a stock LS6 head, I'm not sure that comment is valid.

we hava done a swap 3 years ago from a home ported 806 on a 98 car to a stock 243 , we lost 3 rwhp on the same dyno. and same weather conditions.

however, not all 806 well be ported to reach 300cfm.

These r some decent fully ported 806 #s

100 200 300 400 500 600
INT 72 153 217 258 284 289
EXH 42 107 145 182 207 216

after a couple of months we puuled the ls6 heads and took out the guides and did minimum port work and dynoed 19wrhp higher than the ported 806 set.

I used to have the dynos ,I will try to post if they r still available.
