Suggestions for exhaust or possible other first mod
OK, Got a 2000 SS convertable after I got back from Iraq, 6 spd manual, and fairly stock other than the previous owner had installed basic 2 or 3 chamber flowmaster, which I personally think sounds like ***.
Basically, I'm trying to get some personal experience based suggestions on what would make a good first mod.
I've done some research, and spent quite a bit of time on www.ls1sounds.com and think that the borla and bassani catback exhaust systems sound awesome, but are a bit pricey...
I've also looked a bit at the QTP QTEC electric cutout, and read a few threads on here about this, but my computer sound output is pretty crappy here, and its hard to hear with any clarity what these systems sound like..
from what I've gathered its going to be upwards of $1000 dollars for a borla/bassani installed... and around 400ish for a QTP cutout installed... sound about right?
anyone got any suggestions?
Maybe stick it out with the nasty flowmaster sound, and work in some other bolt-ons? if so, whats my best bang for buck..... new lid, smooth bellows, ls6 intake..? when you guys say ls6 intake, are you talking about the manifold...? ($600+) I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to cars, also keep in mind I'm going to be living in California, so smog may be an issue...
sorry for the long, fragmented speech....

I didnt like any of your exhaust choices so I picked boltons. But in all actuality goto ls1sounds.com and check out what exhaust you like the best. Best to fix problems before you start modding.

To the original poster. Did you like check out any of the true dual clips? Those imo sound the best but bassani and borla do sound pretty good as well. If you went the true duals route you could pick up some pacesetter LTs and TSP duals for around $800 from Texas speed and and get them installed for around the same price as the others. If you have already looked into them and arent interested thats fine as well. My vote goes to bassani. Good luck with whatever route you choose.

the lid is the best bang for the buck around 100 dollars gets you around 10hp. Ported throttle body might get u 5hp. Full exhaust including long tubes, y-pipe and catback will give u anywhere from 20 to 40 hp. Just depends on how much u want to spend. N20 is also up there for best bang for the buck but is risky if u dont know what ur doing. There are a few free mods also. If you have some bank and want alot of power heads cam full exhaust or blower.

I too just got my camaro which had an unknown flowmaster and I went with a corsa catback. It has a very nice sound right now and long tubes with ory will be comming in the next week or so. I think the corsa has a more muscular sound than the borla.

done some research.. going with a borla adj. catback, with the qtec electric cutout..... got the borla on the way....
just to confirm before I buy....
should be a 3" single cutout, right after the Y-Pipe connects togather at the "Y".. someone had said that there is a spot underneath the passenger seat to fit a QTP...
anyone confirm the location of the cutout.
