Default what is the best cam

I have a stock 96 Lt1 and am wondering what the best cam would be to put a little grunt in the engine without having to do major mods. How much HP would i expect with each one and about how much would it cost. Thanks

After having done a cam as one of my very early mods I am going to try to stop you from repeating my mistake.

BEFORE or at the same time as a cam you have to do stall if automatic, gears are a VERY good idea auto or manual, CAI, headers, exhaust, reprogramming, roller rockers and valvesprings(must match cam).

A cam is not something to be done early on without the supporting stuff it is just a huge waste of time and money. Like I said been there done that hoping you listen to someone who already made the mistake you are about too.

Cool i appreciate the info the car is my fathers and he was looking to do some minor upgrades. I suggested headers and gears, he wants the lope of an upgraded cam i will let him know. i know it's better to do heads and cam at the same time, was just wondering if there is a cam out there that is mild enough to not warrant all the other upgrades. Thanks man.

There are cams that will drive fine with stock gears and stall, they just will not gain you much power or ET without all the other stuff.

Programming MIGHT be able to make the stock cam sound a bit bumpy if you specifically request it of the tuner if it is the sound you are after most.

for a nice DD mild cam i'd say cc503 with 918 springs and 1.6 rockers...maybe alil headwork..with some boltons 350rwhp is very attainable...or if you go LE2 with the proper boltons 400rwhp is no sweat...but like said earlier, you will need a stall if auto and 3.73's...if m6 you'll want to get 4.10's, and probably a new rear end soon lol
