Trans guys please help,wierd noise.
I was driving the car today, pulled it into my shop for a wash and i start hearing a really loud sqealing noise.
Sound just like a loose serpentine belt but times 2. Its coming from the frt of the trans.
The car still feels exactly the same, fluid looks fine, temp is okay, just a loud *** squealing from the frt of trans.
Could this be the frt pump? If so how can i make sure before i start replacing stuff. Also the noise goes away after 3k when driving.
Dr evil stage III with 4k on it.
Yank SS 4000 with 1500miles on it.
I checked all the obvious,belts accessories,fans.

Ok Im just going to post this so others can see too, I just got off the phone with this gentleman
1- the squeal he has comes from the bellhousing area,
2- seems to diminsh over 3000 rpm and I beleave he has a 4000 stall he said
3-it still makes the noise in drive brakes applied not moving,
4-when you turn the car off the noise continues for 2-3 seconds then it to stops ,
Here what it cant be
1- it cant be internal to the trans because when in gear brake applied nothing in trans is moving
2- it cant be the pump because it continues after you turn the car off for 2-3 seconds and the pump stops with the engine
I gave him one possibility and suggested he contact the converter manufacturer but this is a strange thing so wanted to put this information out there for others and see what everyone else thinks to

Sprayed, I had a similar prob only it was on a manual trans. I thought it was the throwout bearing.Turns out it was in the PCV system . Long story short try removing the oil cap and see if it goes away.

Thats strange for the pcv to make that noise. The really strange part is that right before the noise the only thing i did to the car was remove my breathers and install a catch can.
I cant get to the car today but im going to remove the oil cap tommarow.

Sprayed , this is the long version. The hose coming from the TB to the valve cover had kink not letting fresh air to the PVC system. As I drove (mostly during decelleration) the vacuum inside the block would get high.Air would suck in around the dipstick and any place else it could. This made a high pitch squeal that sounded like a fan belt on a seized alternater. It was so loud that it could heard a block away. It was hard to figure out where the noise was coming from . Mine was also intermitent making it that much harder. Good luck.

Wow that is really weird. I have the port on tb and valve cover blocked off. Im running
a catch can from the port on the intake to the line that used to go to the intake thats hooked up to the rear of the driver valve cover. I guess ill start looking for kinks in lines. I also was having a sticking idle and the noise would go away if i held it about 3k. All that would indicate a vacum problem. Cant wait to try this stuff on monday.

Alright, i figured it out. It was the pcv system. I had installed a catch can right before the noise. I hooked it up to the intake vacum port and to the line that connects the two valve covers. I guess this caused a loud vacum sucking noise
that sounded just like a belt or bearing that went bad.. Weird but true.
