Default Smog sniffer test

If you pass visual will hi-flow cats pass the smog part. I live in the area where they just do the sniffer and bring it to 2k rpms and my friend who has cats that ive been trying to get a hold of has not called me back in about a week about the cats and im about to give up on him. Plus hi-flow cats are way cheaper than the ones you get from the dealer.

What do you have done to the car? A cat will only clean up so much.

In california there is no such thing as a legal hi-flow cat....... read the CARB and BAR websites.

so if they guy does a visual like he is suppose to he can fail the car right then and there.

Make sure they are 3-way cats not 2-way.

haha test only means that you have to take the car to a 'test only' shop, meaning the shop that tests the car cannot perform any repairs on the car. if you fail, you will have to repair it somewhere else then take it back to a test only shop and make it pass.

They also aren't certified to do a visual

My camaro can't pass the visual here, and they haven't cared as long as it passed the sniffer.

I just need the cats, I have gutted cats on there right now. Everything else is almost back to stock and will pass. I just need to use a pair of cats to pass smog and get my registeration so I can sell the car.

no you are wrong, test-only means no repairs, but a smog check involves two tests on obd 1 cars and three tests on obd 2 cars., visual, sniffer, and readiness test ( on OBD2 cars)

Yea all CA has visual, but there are two types of Smog checks in California as well. There are ones who just do the visual/sniffer and then there are the ones who put your car on a rolling dyno type thing w/sniffer and visual. Basically all the big citys with smog problems like Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Fresno, Sacramento etc.

That's odd then, because the test-only centers haven't told be anything about my car and I've been 3 centers, when I bought the car I needed to get it smogged and took it to a full inspec station, guy looked at the car and i failed visual because of my y-pipe/cat setup not being CARB compliant (which i was unaware of when i bought the car). I tried a test-only just to see, and had no problem. I had to get the car resmogged this year, and again no issue but dmv only wanted a test only certification. That's why i figured they didn't do a visual. Now I'm curious, what exactly do they look for then?

I didnt finish my previous post about the big citys, I had to rush and leave my house and forgot about the post. Its not the test only centers, its the county that you live in. Different countys have different regulations towards what they have to do to pass smog. Kern County and San Luis Obispo County, or Santa Barbara County...whichever of the two im in have completely different rules. I was baffled myself because I though all smog places were the same.

Yeah there are 3 zones in cali i believe. Enhanced which involves the dyno and is usually in the bigger cities as mentioned. Standard which is for smaller cities such as where i live. And finally no smog. Such as the surrounding counties around where i live. Which if you have a po box up there you are free and clear of smog except to sell a vehicle.
