Default D1 402 numbers

Had the car re-dyno tuned today. Setup is a SDPC built 402 with untouced 6.0 heads. The cam is a 228/236 115 by Ed Curtis. GMPP manifiold with Aarons elbow, has a complete fuel system and 60lb injectors. Its through a TH400 and 12 bolt with 3.73's, ATI converter. Did alot of pulls and the tuner got the A/F at about 11.9, and 19 degrees of timing. Added meth to it, but didn't have any large gains.
There is a "ebay" 4" core front mount intercooler being used. The D1 has a 3.4 pulley on it, and it saw a maximum of 16psi. Once the motor reved past 6000 rpm's the IAT's were reaching 125 degrees, so the blower may be spinning past its efficiency range.
Peak numbers were 583.6 hp @ 5500 rpm's, 773.7 torque @ 2750 rpm's. This was on a Mustang dyno.
Its no dyno queen, thats for sure.
Oh yea, they dyno was showing 300 rpm's lower than HPtuners, so add 300 rpm's to the peak numbers.

It feels real strong, has an instant response to it. I am thinking of changing the gear to a 3.42 or so, as it just spins the tires.

Wow Jim 773 torque!! that is a lot for a d1 especially with a fairly big cam, and early in the power band too. Never can say done but Ill say finally its tuned, and the bugs worked out. If you raised the timing some the meth would matter a lot more but I'm assuming you are more conservative minded. It would drop your tq some though. It must be a combination of the cam you have, the somewhat low timing your running and the stroke of the 402 that makes the crazy torque you have. Either way its great to hear you got it tuned. Dan

On one of the last runs the tuner was trying to see if he could get more with the meth while raising the timing to 21 degrees but it didn't pick up anything. He did read the sparkplugs, and said I could probabably benefit from a lil colder of a plug. I have TR6's now.
He was suprsised as well it made that much torque and at the instant response of it, he said it feels more like a roots type of blower than a centrifugal.

I'm not sure what size it is. I have the Alkycontrol kit. It didn't seem to be working properly, as it was spraying meth even before the boost gauge was showing any boost. Its supposed to activate after 4psi is seen via the mapsensor, but a connection or something might have shorted or came loose or something.
With the gain turned at half way, the A/F ratio dropped down about .4

Congrats... very nice numbers... You should be good for low 10's high 9's with that much power through a TH400 on a mustang dyno. Good luck with the car

That torque looks weird. Are you sure you don't have a Kenne Bell on it.

Very nice setup man, you should have 9s or close to it with that curve and a decent launch!

Good power thru a th400! Not sure what ya have in there for a stall, but if you had a 6 speed in the car you coudl probably add about 70 hp to that #, probably take 100 ft off the tq too, but still.

That should be 9 second power I'd suspect, I ran 10.8 spinning the tires and the beads in the tires with 450 rw, thru a th400 and a big stall fwiw.

Well Jim I was just thinking if the jet is small and if the plugs are too hot that you could just run more meth and achieve more timing, and at the same time cause the plugs to burn tan/clean if that is what you want. Or sit back change the plugs, and enjoy what you have. It is quite impressive as is. Just first fix the meth wiring, id call Julio, hes the helpful sort so Ive heard.

Wow...that doesn't even look like a centrifugal graph. How in the world are
you making so much torque down low like that? That's some real nice power
through a TH400.

probably converter flash.... th400 graphs look funny like that. My n/a 402 had a huge converter spike if we stomped on it with the rpm's low enough (6000 converter)... the tq # was up in the 700's.. obviously bogus.

no it's not a spike.. but it's typical of an ulocked converter dyno graph. My tq supposedly peaked pretty much where the pull started and the hp didn't peak until over 6500... that's just not possible.

Dyno #'s are just that, #'s The car this thread was started about, should have no problem making a 9 second pass if the chassis/traction situation are up to the task. Even if it's not a track car, I'd think 135 mph in the 1/4 isn't out of reach.

Boone, I probably won't mess with the tune for a while. First I will try to get some track times in, but that wont be for a few months as its prety cold here and all the tracks are shut down.

The 60lbs Motrons were at 98% duty cycle, so they are being pushed prety hard.

Here is a video I took off my camera phone. You can't hear it too well, but the video quality isn't bad.

Are u running a stock fuel system? If not why not increase the FP to 65psi base. The 60lbs should be plenty with higher fuel pressure giving u have a good fuel system.
