Default X-er 232/234 @ 112

I have a 2700 # RX7 with a stock LS1 shortblock, a set of unmilled afr 205 heads with stock GM MLS Headgaskets, a thunder CheatR cam, 4.10 gears, 4L60e, 3700-3800 stall, ls6 intake and ported TB and 1 3/4 headers.

I was thinking of trying this camshaft for a more aggressive track setup:

Xtreme XE-R LS1 - 232/234 @ 112, .595in .598ex, 2400 to 7200rpm.

I have no idea if it will come close to clearing.. or if it's even a reasonable camshaft to try. I know the AFR heads out of the box are supposed to have more clearance then stock heads.

I wanted to try a very aggressive camshaft to see what the car will do at the track.. if I don't like it I can always switch back to the very mild cheatr cam for street driving.

Any help would be appreciated.. thanks.

Aram

I would mill the heads at least .024 (62cc) and run a .040 Cometic gasket or the .042 Mr. gasket. To raise your SCR/DCR

Great cam BTW. Definately go with predator-z's advice.

Thanks for the responses. Right now I don't want to pull the heads off the car and don't want to flycut the pistons because I'm thinking about putting a stronger shortblock in the car and just want to try a more "max effort" cam to see if I can get some new better times at the track in the meantime.

Do you think there is a better cam that fits that bill?

Here's a quick question.. with the AFR heads and no milling and stock MLS gasket, will any cam that clears with stock heads clear? Like many of the max effort stock head camshafts?

AFR have at least .01x more PTV clearance than stock but do have bigger valves.
We know G5X3 from LGM will clear and probably MS3.

I would say go for a G5X3 on a 112
