Question MS3/PRC Stage 1.5 5.3 heads, sound good?

Does the above sound like a nice set up? NO flycutting with the stage 1.5, and a nice bump in compression because of the smaller chamber. (I have stock gaskets)

I will also add the 90/90...

what do ya'll think?

Thanks
Erik

You may have to cut a little with those heads.

Call Texas Speed. They will be glad to help you as well.

I would go for the stage 1 243 LS2/LS6 castings.

Agreed. Why lose PTV clearance so much with 5.3L heads, when you can just mill the LS6 heads?
After asking that, it might be worth it to do a good flycut and run those 5.3L heads. I'm sure the intake runners are killer. They have a lot to work with, and they've only increased them to 220cc. Pretty nice.

yeah I was told the 2.02 valve will clear...but NOT the 2.04 valve...

Doesnt that make it a stage 1.5 again though??

confusing..

Sounds about right. I assume that's measured on your motor, since the loose clearances in these cars vary from motor to motor.

no i have not measured that on my motor...i was told that by TSP...
someone mentioned above just to mill some ls6 heads and have better PTV clearance overall...please elaborate...
I want to bump compression for a little more power...

I'm sorry. We posted too close to each other, and I should've quoted. I've fixed it now.

5.3L heads have less PTV clearance than LS6 heads. But TSP usually sinks their valves, probably making them pretty close actually.

I dunno man. What's the duration of an MS3 anyway? 236/239 or something?
I say flycut so you can have maximum compression regardless of what head you run, unless you buy some stupidly expensive heads like ETP or TFS. Flycutting is simple, and I'll bet TSP can rent you the tool. If I were closer, I'd loan you mine.

I'd decide what DCR you want, and then do whatever it takes to make your h/c setup meet that goal.

The stage 1.5 have smaller exhaust valves(STOCK)-,thats probably why they are 100$ cheaper than the stage 2.5, thats the only difference that i could find. You could always order a cam with a different cl. for more clearance.Give them a phone call, they always pick up or else there on the phone with someone else.

why? the 5.3's have smaller chambers for more compression and flow very similar. if you milled the ls6 to the same size chamber wouldnt ptv be pretty similar then?

I currently rn the TSP stg 1 243s with an MS4. The 237 cc runners on those heads are way too large for our cubes. I did not get the power I was expecting from my setup and I and Formato believe its the large runners. I would have gone the 5.3 route but I do not know how to flycut and really didnt have the money to apy somone for it.

I am sorry to hear that you did not like the runner size....
I was told that the MS3 which I Have will fit under a set of 2.5 5.3's w/o flycutting as long as the stock gaskets are used....

HOw can you check for PTV again? I am going to anyway for the hell of it...
Thanks
