Default Spark plug change at every 100k?

I was going to change out my plugs, it has 35k miles on a 2000 camaro z28. The service provider at a chrevrolet said it will last til 100k miles ? They said I had platinum plugs installed. Tey said it would cost 600 bones to change it out if need be.

Is this right ? I thought I would have to change it every 30k, 60k miles and so forth. As always, thanks.

They are platinum plugs, but the platinum disk on the plugs is probably gone. Don't pay 600 to have them changed. Spend 30 bucks on some tools if you don't already have them; universal joints and various extensions. Buy 8 plugs for under 20 dollars, and do it yourself in a few hours.

$600? Advisor must be getting $10 from a service tech every time he says that, so he won't have to change any.

I would hate to be the guy that has to pull 100k mile plugs out of an aluminum head.

I'd change 'em. And forget the $600. That's nuts.

acdelco 41-985 PRESET GAP .040
1", 3", and 10" extension
Double Swivel Spark Plug Socket 5/8"

if you have the extra cash change all the fluids out too even with that no where near 600 bucks...he should be burned at the stake

Spark plug gaps change slighlty over time under normal operation. I would not let them go 100k without at least pulling them and checking the gap at 50 or maybe every 30k.

It's worth it to change them even when they don't "need it". It's a lot better than driving on them until one fouls on you, and then having to drive on 7 cylinders until you can get around to changing them.

It's actually not all that bad. With the air tubes out of the way and a couple of coil packs moved on the pass side it's cake.
