Well i bought my first Bird last night and got a smoking deal on it being told it needs a steering column. Well the guy drove from Rhode Island 4 Hours to drop it off to me because he really wanted the car I traded him. I drove it around a bit last night and now understand why they're popular it put me back in my seat just tapping the gas. So heres the issue.

Car runs and drives fine, the key doesnt turn all the way so he installed a switch and a push button start. However, this means that the accessories do not work. The lights work, windows and mirrors work. Heat and wipers and radio do not. High beams are also stuck on, it appears that anything having to do with the sheering wheel controls do not work. I pulled it apart a bit and found that the switch is connected to the red wire and the pink wire. The button is also connected to the pink. I was going to connect the brown and orange wires that I see from wiring diagrams control the accessories to the switch as well., I was wondering if I do this if it will allow this to be a temp fix until I can find a steering column in my area...

I Have pictures of the mess as well if anyone wants to see.

Thanks and again NOW I'm in love with my 6 speed rocketship.

Make sure it's not a hot box...

Did you need wiring diagrams, or do you already have them?

Also check your fuses at the side of the dash. Should be a 15A for the accessories you're missing. I just can't remember what fuse # it is.

Called all my local PD's and the registry, its a legit mobile. Fuses are good, Been pouring over the diagrams and im going to tie the acc. into the main switch for now until I can look up a whole steering column and pray that thats all thats wrong.

Ah I should have printed out the diagrams while I was at work. I'm home now..

I'd definately need them in front of me to help you out any. You've got a nightmare in front of you by the sounds of it. Should be able to get it to work temporarily off the switch. What kind of switch is it? Don't overload it if it's just a cheapo, and run the risk of burning stuff up...

like I said it runs and drives, the hot red is hopped into the pink ignition wire so I flip the switch and then push a button and the car starts... Its a mess.
