Default Question about head/cam package

Hi, I've bought a used set of AFR205 heads and G5X2 112lsa cam.

I've heard/read that people typically upgrade the timing chain and oil pump when doing head/cam packages.

I can see with a more aggressive cam that a more heavy duty chain may be needed. What's the reason for upgrading the oil pump with a higher flow pump? Is the stock pump not sufficient?

Also, does the chain really need to be upgraded for street duty? If so, what do you recommend?

Thanks.

GM thought the early LS1 oil pumps were worthy of an upgrade, so in 2001 they came up with the LS6 pumps. The LS6 pump is inexpensive insurance, you should install one, IMO, while the car is apart for the cam swap.

My engine is from a 2002 SS, so I guess it's fine?

i would probably just get an ls2 chain and be done with it. as said you already have the ls6 pump so it is more than adequate in stock form.
