Default Would you guys do it?

I found a '95 Formula Firehawk the other day for sale. The guy's asking about $12,000 for it. It has just over 45,000 miles on the clock, and looks like it's in mint condition.

The reason I ask is, I can get a pretty good condition LS1 for this amount, and I haven't driven an LT1 yet (this guy is a long ways away, so that's why I haven't gone out there yet).

The insurance surprised me about how cheap it is for LT1s. This car is quoted at about $1,200 every 6 months, which is almost half of what I'm paying right now for my Ranger.... which is ridiculous, I know. Part of the reason why I'm getting out of it.

Anyways, I was also wondering if the Firehawk actually put out more power than a regular Formula? Thanks

I believe that a 95 formula put out 275 hp while a 95 firehawk put out 315hp. I cant remember the torque numbers.

Price is high, but if its mint with 45k and it is a firehawk, maybe that price is okay. If you want to keep it stock or near stock, i would get that over an ls1. If you want to make some big numbers more easily, go ls1.

i wouldnt invest more than 8-9k on a LT1, if you have that kinda cash(10k+) to spend just go ahead and get an LS1

Yea, that is a little pricy for an LT1. I can buy a LT1 Camaro for $3k, invest about $2k into a complete motor rebuild with forged internals and other high-performance stuff, another $2k in mods, and have a kick *** car. I say that cause I just re-built the motor in mine, and it will wax alot of cars. Look for a cheaper deal, and tweak it out.

True enough.

I'm not looking for a crazy drag car, though. It'll probably be driven a fair amount, so it wouldn't see much more than bolt-ons, I don't think.

The firehawks are harder to come by and you dont see them as much in great shape... If the car is perfect and you really REALLY like it then maybe... I wouldnt give him more than 10 but thats just me... It really comes down to is the car worth it to YOU

The car is in very good shape from what I can see. Leather looks new, paint still shines deep, all that.

There are two subs on the rear teck of the hatch, and he changed the hard top. Me, I'd change that, because it looks tacky, and I'm sure that one could say it hurt the value of the car...

It's a hard top, as well. I don't know if that changes anythign as far as value goes. Me I don't mind hard top or T-top, either way.

If you want something to dd, don't buy the Firehawk (try to preserve the car). If you just want a bolt-on weekend driver/cruiser/car show car, then get it. A clean LS1 would be a better choice as a dd.

He could come down from $12K. Don't preserve the Firehawk. Drive it, enjoy it. You're not a museum.

True. I know I'd catch flak by daily driving a Firehawk. But... being that it would be my car... yaknow. I keep very good care of my cars, even though I do put a few miles on them (my 05 Ranger has about 24000 miles on it now).

Then get the LS1. I don't know why someone would pay lots of money for a somewhat rare car and dd it. If you're not concerned about the value of the car, then get a regular LT1 car and put Firehawk badges on it. There won't be much of a difference except it would save you $6,000-$7,000.

Default Buy The Hawk !!

They are rare and getting more scarce in good shape.
I own #031 built in 1995 but it has the 383/lt4 upgrade so i paid a little more than you are considering.
The hawks are great fun and attract attention and i dont think it would be a bad buy but look at nada under classics and then decide

The Firehawk will have more value later on.
An LS1 will have more performance and be easier to mod.
Both are good choices, depending on what you want to do with the car.

12k for a LT1 Hawk? I don't know, i bought my LS1 car for 9k. It would be tough for me to pay that much for a car that I could get the lesser version For 4-5K (LT1 bird). They are rare though, and there value could increase over the years. Tough call...

383 lt4 upgrade? never was such a thing, not from the factory anyhoo. there was no such thing as an LT4 in 1995. the only LT4 firehawks were in 1997 (still 350's) and i think there were only 100 of them made. not all 1997 firehawks are LT4's, they were a special run.

what color is the hawk? if its not black GET IT although $12k is a bit high. i paid $10k for mine 3.5 years ago and that was too much.

Unless you can drop it down a few thousand, I'd say go with an ls1. But the guy seems like it likes it too much to let it go for the true value. It's a nice, somewhat rare, car. If you're drooling over it and have deep pockets, go ahead.

I wouldn't buy something I can't drive. There is always some ******* that backs into it when you are parked, or it gets hit. That's why mine looks like ****..

I found some pics of it.

The guy lowered the price to 11,000 now.

Note: the stock head unit is back in it now.
