Hope so if you are re-using them. My first set of Cometics DID NOT seal. Good luck.

You get coolant in your oil?

Get some permatex copper spray gasket and spray it on there before reusing.

If the engine has been heat cycled even once, you'll need to replace them. They won't hold a proper combustion seal anymore. Sorry bout that...........

I've had two sets and have never had a problem sealing them. I'm confused as to who all of these people are and why they are having sealing problems. I think what some people's problem is is that they don't get the deck surface clean enough. Even the smallest imperfection could cause issues with these gaskets. Even when the gaskets are new, I spray a light coating of copper gasket on them. I've never had a problem.

A lot of people reuse Cometics. That is one of their selling points. I'm not sure why you're saying they can't be reused

+1 for make sure you put a liberal amount of copper spray on both sides and have the surfaces decked or atleast cleaned very, very well.

+2, Ive got a car in my shop now Im working on and we swapped the heads about 6-7 months ago reusing the cometics that were on the car, and Im in the process of putting a new forged motor also resusing them again. No leaks or problems so far and this will be the 3rd time they have been reused. I just make sure I coat them down on both sides real good with the copper sealant spray..

The only gaskets that are reusable to my knowledge is a solid copper with o-ringed block or heads. All other gaskets seal by compressing the sealing bead around the bore. Once the seal is compressed it doesn't bounce back. Kind of the same concept as TTY head bolts. I have reused even regular head gaskets (felpro etc) before with copper coat but not on any high hp applications and certainly not a FI + Nitrous engine. If you reuse them they might seal and work fine? If it was mine I would not reuse them.

im buying cometics and i asked tony mamo about them leaking and he said, it shouldnt be a problem if the deck is cleaned and smoothed out. I know on the cometic website, it has to meet a certain smoothness factor or something like that.

People just don't realize that these gaskets are not as forgiving as the stock MLS or graphite. However, when in a properly prepared application, you can't beat these.

I think the reason that the stock gaskets are more trouble free is because they have a coating on them around the sealing areas. Spraying copper coat on the cometics would seem to give the same effect of the sealing surface on the stock gaskets.

I have reused them 3 times on a set and NEVER had a issue.

the 2nd time I reuse them I just clean the up and put them back on then the 3rd time is when I copper coat them. After I copper coat them I wont reuse them.

I'm sprayin a good sized shot on the car also and have yet to have a head gasket leak.

thats false-i reused mine 4 times in a row-never one leak i read you can reuse them up to 5 times but after 4 times, i figured it was enough and bought another set of cometics. i never used copper spray. if you do use copper spray do you spray both sides of the gaskits, then the block?? or just the gaskits?
