If it was much lighter, id say th350, followed by the powerglide. Your not making retarted power via a turbo or some other FI, so your gearing sucks with the PG, th350 are strong but you never know if your going to make more.

Id stick with the 400 and let the car fly off the trans brake.

TH400 for a mostly track or goofing off car. 4l80 if you want a more daily driver type street & strip car.

Another vote, that's not much power. If you do plan more, than I vote 350.

I hardly ever see a th400 fail and Th350 and 4l60-e failures are common place, to build a TH350 or 4l60-e up close to a stock th400 is costly
A fresh stock truck th400 will do the job for you! and any upgrades are added protection for added power later down the road
I have many customers that thought the OD would be great only to see them want to trade the 4l60-e or 4l80-e back to the th400

If you dont mind losing overdrive...go with the TH400. I am on my 2nd rebuild on my 60e....next time Im going with TH400. Each rebuild of my current setup is running me $1200

350 turbo with good parts they will last . The weight of the car you need some lower first gear. the 400 is heavy and to much hp loss. I have used these long tail 350 with 4l60 e tail shaft . They make a 4wd conversion with spacer and stuff to make spedo work done 3 of them.
