Default G5x3 cam in a vette?

I have read that this is a nice size cam and i didnt think it would work with my old tranny but i just put in a z06 tranny (mn12) so will this work? car is not a DD and more lope the better.. want to get the most power i can out of a cam so if you have a better solution i am open. i also want to make around 400rwhp with some lt's and other bolt ons.

<I already found some info but not exactly what im looking for.

The user Lethl z06 here is a friend of mine. His 01 z06 put down 418 with the x3, lg 1 3/4 long tubes, x pipe with stock cat-back, vararam, ls6 intake, and a few other bolt-ons. It sounded incredible, and had good street manors.

The X3 is a baby cam.... lol Ok maybe not but it's 1000% streetable and makes great power with a good tune! I had no surging, bucking, ect.. normally associated with larger cams.

FYI, your tranny has no bearing whether the cam would work or not.

A couple of points.

Your transmission has absolutely no bearing on the cam. If anything, the Z06 transmission with its deeper 1st and 2nd gear ratio will help your drivability.

I would put in the longer lifters!
There are no such things as longer lifters. I think what you meant to say was longer pushrods. The appropriate answer is to get the correct length pushrods for your application.

I have a friend with the G5x3 and he loves it. He added some 3.90 gears and the car really moves now. I personally choose the F14. We run pretty much identical times with about the same power. He made 10 more hp then me, and I made about 10 more tq than him.

I have a x3 copy cat cam for sale. will be out of the car this weekend. It a comp 234/242 591/601 114 lsa. PM me if interested. from 3500 on up it pulled like a freight train. I never dyno'd it so I'm not sure on the power. But with 5.3 heads it ran 11.6x missing gears all down the track. So I think it would of ran 11.40's easily.

I think all the LG cams are pretty bad ***.

Default In an 04 Z06

Would the valves be close to the dreaded piston with this cam. I am wanting to make up my mind on a cam for the Z but was not wanting to get into flycutting the pistons. I am installing my Kooks 1.75" headers X pipe extensions in Jan and need to get the heads and cam ordered soon. I read the cam stickey but really don't remember seeing anything about how much lift and dur. you can run without flycutting.
I have very few post but love the forum.
Thanks
Don

The X3 on a 112 or 114 lsa will clear stock unmilled LS6 heads with no problems.

The z06 mn12 is more aggressive then the mn6 for the first few gears.. feals like i have some 3.90's in from it. I think i will eventually get higher gears as money limits my mods but the plan is

kooks 7/8 lt's
pp ls6 heads
ls6 intake
g5x3 cam
ud pulleys
cai

hoping to make 440 na when done and enjoy the car from there. thanks again for the advice please inform me with more info on what i should do for the long run so i dont have todo things twice.

Q's

Is this a blower/n20 friendly cam?
will it let my Z06 TI exhaust come alive?
my brother also is getting hp tuners and i will let him tune the car but should i get a mail order tune and let him workout any bugs?

I wouldnt do 1 7/8 headers.... you will loose a ton of under the curve.

Yes this cam is N20 friendly.... def not blower friendly though.

I agree with Lethl Z06, anything under a 200 shot, which is probably a safe assumption if you're on the stock short block and the cam will be great with the bottle. Have fun and post some track numbers when you're done.

You are going to need more mods to make the 440 hp mark I think. I would also take it to a tuner because a mail order and your brother's tuning will not get you there. There is a learning curve to tuning.

02' ZO6 here....

Previously running cam-only I made 437whp/396wtq

mods:
G5X3/114
LG LT's (offroad)
GHL catback
Halltech airbridge
Vararam
160* thermo

the car also had a Spec stg 3 and an alum. flywheel and went 11.70 at 121.xx with high 1.7 60' times....

I personally think the G5X3 is a badass cam!
