Man, what a week this has been.. :bash:
Okay, so Thursday night, power goes out.. I'm on vacation from my job.. I go back in to work on Monday, and I'm there for 30 minutes and get laid off.
:(
Power comes back on at my place on Tuesday.. but apparently my ISP (Comcast) took a hit in the storm and I have no internet access from home... I'm actually posting from the Issaquah library right now. They can't seem to tell me whether it will be out for another day... another week.. another month even. Getting really frustrating.
So anyway... I'm looking for a job again. If any of the IT guys in the group have any leads on who is hiring currently, I would be most appreciative of the information. I'm good for a little while, but considering the time of year, it's not exactly the best time to be out of work.. hoping to get back into something real soon.
Looking for a job without internet access is a real pain, too. :bash:

Sorry, brother...
I will keep ya in my prayers. Something good will come up soon, so just keep looking. I'd offer to get you a job, but I don't think starting pay would cut it... 32k a year ain't exactly anything to write home about, lol.

Ouch! You might go to the Boeing web site and check to see if there are any open requisitions there. We've been short of IT people for a couple of years.

Sorry to hear that Zeke! And yeah, they always pull that shit under the guise of "Well, we didn't want to wait too long, we wanted to get it done quickly so you guys have more of a chance to find a new job... we laid you off at this point in the year for you!" Yeah right... asswipes.

That sucks Zeke. :( Hoping for a quick turn around and finding a new job soon. I've had some pretty good luck with Business Careers but I dunno how many IT jobs they have access too. They're not contract either all they find is full time jobs and the company pays them.

Man that sucks, and I've been down that road before. My last two previous jobs laid me off (from lack of work), just before Christmas. Sorry to hear about that, getting laid off at any time sucks, let alone just before the holidays.

Well, for the last two years I've been working as a Wintel Server Tech at WaMu's data center down in Tukwila.. basically rack/stack, break/fix, build and maintain servers, general sys admin work, Windows troubleshooting, supporting IBM and Compaq/HP hardware. Prior to that I spent 3 years doing software rollout support for Wamu, Verizon Wireless and Real Networks.. The last position I had there was as a technical lead, where I had teams of technicians working for me, and I managed the technicians doing deployments of new software/hardware campus-wide, hired/fired techs, and did shared data migrations from Novell servers to Windows EFS boxes. Before then I spent 4 years at Microsoft as a lab technician.
I'm kinda looking to get away from the data center environment and back into something that is less isolated... I'm fairly open to new stuff, too, and wouldn't even mind getting into a project management kind of role if the pay rate was right.
As far as experience, I've been in electronics / computers since 1983, and have been working as a Wintel tech since 1993 or so. I think the thing that works against me right now is that I do not have a degree, or any current certifications that are of much use to me... I mean, I have some basic IBM stuff, and was working on getting current, but that's pretty much out the window right now.

Well, fortunately, my internet connection came back on this morning, so I'm good now... at least for the time being. I apperciate the offer, though. :)
Man, having no internet access sucks ass.

That really blows, Zeke. I'm sorry. You probably already know about dice.com and computerjobs.com. I have found some leads/ideas on those sites.
If you want to take a pay cut you can come sell doors and windows with me. I know we are going to be hiring again sometime before February.
