switch cam with new heads
Im an A4 with aTR224/112 cam and i just bought TSp 5.3 stage 2.5 heads and was wondering if i should switch to a tsp 233/239 cam.How much hp would i be leaving on the table if i stay with the Tr224?Would I have to switch rear gears to use the 233/239 cam(currently 3:23 gear). If i did switch would it feel slower down low? How much HP is this cam worth over my set up

Hey, I have close to the same question: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/628987-keep-221-221-go-233-239-a.html
Some good reading in there I think.

i love my cam but i only hear good things and good power/tq numbers with the 224 and a good set of heads. the cam swap would not be worth it. as far as losing low end torque with a bigger cam, well thats what bigger stalls are for. my 233/239 doesnt too well down low but guess what, im hardly ever there because i have a 3800 converter. guys with m6's are usually the ones that need to worry more about low end. if anything though id listen to predator, hes the expert on here and he really knows his stuff.

If you don't already have a stall, you'll definitely want one with the larger cam. Predator's suggestion is the best bet. Even 10.75:1 is not quite where you want to be with that cam. By my calcs, an 11.35:1 compression ratio should give you a DCR of 8.6:1, and really bring that cam to life. I figured using XE 224 lobes with 277* duration @ .006", an ICL of 112*, 62 cc chambers and .040" head gaskets.

One more question.Would raising the compression still be okay to spray later

You can use a Mr Gasket .042 gasket, (good price, quench and product) that will shave a little over 2cc from your compression.
Stage 2.5s are ~63cc so you'll be closer to 60.x cc
In the neighbourhood of 11.4x :1

not to get off topic but we have very similar mods and it seems goal except i dont have n20 yet but i was wondering how is your rear 10 bolt holding with the mods you have and do yoou think it will hold with the h/c and the n20

With lower durations, you can go with less compression. 61.x cc (.010 mill), stock gasket or a .042 gasket and no mill.
Octane use is more relative to DCR than SCR, so you would be fine on 93 octane. With a tune of course.
Just something I hope everyone understands is the 5.3 L heads are great with low duration cams, but if you're gonna go bigger later, then I recommend the PRC stage 1 with duals as an option. This way you leave ur options open for later.
