Ill be picking up an 85 Monte carlo ss this week, and im torn between what motor to get my hands on for it. I know the TPI 350 can be done no problem, and The LT1 should work as well, just curious whats in store for the LT1 motor as far as parts or mods if anyone had done this, Theres a local complete LT1, trans, and pcm for sale dirt cheap that IMO would be nice to set down in it.

i had an lt1/6speed in my '80 malibu, great little combo for a streeter. lots of parts but pretty much old technology compared to ls1's.

Why bother with the LT1 when the LS1 swap is just about as easy!

I looked into all 3 before I did my LS1 swap. As far as what is easiest to put in TPI>LT1>LS1 The TPI is basically a drop in, but you still have to do the fuel system mods and wiring mods. The LT1 needs both those plus you have to deal with the A/C not fitting and an electric speedo. The LS1 needs all the mods of the TPI and LT1 plus you need engine mounts. In reality it seemed that once you were doing a fuel injection swap it was only minimal effort to go from doing a TPI to doing a LS1.

As far as performance potential LS1>LT1>TPI. The LT1 has aftermarket support, but not as much as the LS1. Plus with the LT1 you have to deal with opti-crap, some people swear its reliable and never have trouble with it and others have killed handfulls of cap and rotors.

Ok, sounds as simple as it seems, and im not intrested with an ls1, ive toyed with enough of them already. There was a complete LT1 with trans and pcm going for 800 bucks but i havnt got a reply.. must be sold, ill be looking for any NON LS complete EFI 350 with pcm and 6 speed for it. wont find many LS motors cheap, everyone already has there eye on them for conversions.
