Default Biggest cam without flycutting??

I'm thinking about changing up my setup a little over the winter. Currently, I'm running the TSP MS3 with some PRC stg.1 heads which has stock size valves.

I'm looking to change the heads to either the TFS 215cc,the AFR 205/225cc, or the ETP 215cc. I know that the ETP 215cc with the MS3 requires flycutting. I was told that the AFR 205s will fit without milling, but it'll be close. No idea if the TFS heads will fit or not.

If I need to I'll probably swap out the cam to a smaller one to take one of those heads milled so I can get more compression. I also spray 150shot on top of the H/C as well.

Any ideas??

Um, if you'll have the heads off anyway, just flycut. That way you can run proper compression and whatever cam you want, and not have PTV clearance issues. Problem solved.

My understanding is that you would have more P/V clearance with all of those heads. The AFR's have more I guess due to the chamber shape and depth of the valve seat, and the others have more due to the better valve angles.

From what I read is that the MS3/MS4, T-rex and I think F14 or 15 is getting to be the largest without cutting but if you can notch the pistons, go for it.

You will not have to flycut if you decide to go with ETP 215. I have the MS3 on 113LSA and ran a .045 cometics head gasket with my ETP 215 with a 62cc and had lots of room. I could have even milled the heads some or I could ran a thinner head gasket. Good luck

ETP's will clear due to there 11* Valve Angle. Thats the way i would go if i did it again and a trex cam. AFR's wont clear that big of a cam. Whats worng with your setup now? You can fit a trex under the prc's if you wanted a lil bigger cam. I have the prc stg. 2's and MS3, I would have liked more tq out of the setup but the NX makes up for that

You actually have more V to P clearance then stock with the ETP and TFS heads due to the rolled valve angle. Since the AFR's are still 15 degrees with a larger valve you will loose some. If i was you i would mill the heads and run a .040 head gasket to bring you SCR and DCR up and flycut if necessary. One problem that you will run into if you run th ET or TFS heads is with the rolled angle its going to push the valves closer to the edge of the piston so you cant use a junk stock head to flycut if you plan on running one of these heads.

That's great news, cause they had to flycut a Z06 at the shop that I went which had that setup.

Do you have any numbers yet with the ETPs yet? What was you final C/R with the setup? Did you get a chance to measure your PTV?

I'll be doing the work on my own with my friend. If I wanted to flycut the pistons, I'd have to bring the car with the pistons showing to a local shop. Even then, it'd still be $400 plus all the towing back and forth.

Flycutting isnt hard to do at all, if you have the mechanical skills to do a head and cam swap you should have the ability/skills to flycut. This isnt rocket science

I love my setup right now, but like you I want to get more torque and more power back down low. And I don't like the sluggish throttle response from the huge intake runners. I'm actually looking to go smaller on the cam if I'm going to swap it out, so I can move the powerband back down a little.

So do the TFS heads also have the 11* valve angle like the ETPs?

How do I flycut the pistons anyways?

Yeah, I heard it wasn't that hard either. You got a DIY link somewhere?

the TFS heads have a 13.5 degree valve angle

Here is a picture of what i was talking about earlier. LG posted this picture in another thread a while back. You can see where the stock LS6 heads need to be cut and where the ETP heads need to be cut

Wow! All I had to do was put the tool on a drill. No towing at all. Tool cost me under $150 for only the intake side, since my exhaust side had sufficient clearance.

Do a search and you'll find instructions. I'll see if I can find any of my old PMs explaining what I remember from my build.

I don't have any #'s yet. I'm hoping for 450rwhp and around 400tq. But what ever I make over that is fine with me. I still have a couple of changes I want to do and some more parts to put on before I go get it dynoed. My C/R is right around 11:1 and I had a little over .150" clearance on the intake valve.

What about the exhaust valve clearance? I believe that's the one that smacks, not the intake valve.

You will see more clearance issues with the intake valve then with the exhaust... But its always a good idea to check them both
