Default Dont want to sound stupid but..

I took my car down to my friends shop about a month ago to put my asp underdrive pulley on because he said he had the right puller to get it off. We got the old one off fine and i got a new bolt but he said torqing it down doesnt really matter and we just ran it down with the impact

i have been reading some writeups on putting them on and it says you should really torque them down. WHat should i do it want it done right?

If you use a new, stock type torque to yield fastener, then you need to follow a certain procedure (not sure how many degrees more you have to go though off the top of my head), and if you use an ARP crank bolt, I think the specs on that are 240 ft-lbs.

However, when I had a buddy install my pulley, he put it on with an impact wrench and was done with it. The pulley is fully seated, and has never wandered off, and that was 20 some-odd thousand miles ago. I'm not too terribly concerned about it either.

ya, and hes not going to pay if it comes loose either, dont listen to idiots who think they know it all and dont want to listen to the customer

a good shop will read the instructions and torque to the specs of the part

What ft lb was the impact though? That will make the difference right there....

the pulley is pretty much pressed on to begin with so even if the bolt back all the way out i HIGHLY doubt the pulley would walk of the front of the crank

Yeah it is about as tight as you can get it with a breaker bar and a long 1/2 drive. 240 is optimal.

The bolt will break long before it will do any damage to the crank. If it were me....I would replece the bolt and make sure it's torqued down properly. www.ls1howto.com has the proper procedure. You should be OK but why risk it?
