I'm thinking about ditching my exhaust. Wanna go mufflers just past the collector. Any pics or part's posted is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys. I wanna go with non bullets because Etown has alot of restrictions on event days when it comes to db's and bullet mufflers. I was thinking if there are non bullets that would fit under there I could pass tech and save a little weight in the process by getting rid of the extra pipe.

If you go spiral flows, you should be able to stay pretty quiet. I consider mine pretty quiet cause i can still listen the radio while driving.

Mine were Flo-Pro Twisters (Similar to the Spiro Flows) They were not that loud. Similar to my duals with Sweet Thunders that I have now.

I have the magnaflow mufflers. they are a straight through design, but they were about 1/2 as quiet as bullets were(aren't? hahah)

this is a shitty video of some shakedown/problem runs i was doing, but you can still see where the mufflers ended up. after looking at it, you can't really see them all that well, but they fit and don't bang. good for street driving, then take off for the track maybe? 1:00 minute mark is best shot

http://www.tgdspeed.com/videos/chris.wmv

they are 4" height and like 20" long

I really appreciate the video BUT, hehe at the 1:20 mark on the vid it looks like the exhaust hits the floor when your wheels come down. You can see the sparks. :)

not the exhaust hitting, it's from the car spinning and it hit's the limiter on the spray, REALLY bad :) so small flames i didnt do any "clearancing" on the bottom. passenger side is fine, that driver's side just needs to go past the seat brackets

Really? I would have thought it would have made more power, maybe you needed a tune? Too loud huh, well Etown wouldn't let me race if it was too loud either.

oh the reason the muffler is bent like that is when i had it off the collector i flaten the muffler for ground clearance. i did have the other one on but uuummm i kinda fell off. lol

if you lost a LOT of low end power, it wasnt from that exhaust. that exhaust with the y pipe is still restrictive. put it on the dyno or put it on the track. i bet its in your head. the car just makes more noise to get the car moving compared to the quiet exhaust imo.

no this set up i felt more power, when i had a muffler off each header (like next) i felt like i lost a lot of low end power.

Are the XR-1's considered bullets? They don't look like bullets and the sound is nice. Are they a straight through design or baffled? I have TSP duals, maybe I'll just go with those mufflers.

It's a straight through muffler that essentially has a screen and some baffles along the sides. It's more like an Oval bullet instead of a round one. Looking down the center, there's nothing there. Just a 3" or 4" hole depending on the size you have.

That's good if it's oval because they won't know if it's straight through or baffled at tech insp. I'll most likely go with those. Thanks everyone for all the pics.

Mark,

When I took off the bullets that came with my TSP True Duals and put "more restrictive" Dynatech mufflers on the car actually picked up power on the dyno and ran faster at the track. They were only $89 each from Jegs. Rich put them on in an hour and then up on the dyno for Julio. They pass tech at E-town just fine. Don't worry about the weight savings, get those mufflers and we can run events together this spring at E-town.

No problem. If you look at them they are pretty much strait through, but they look like regular mufflers so E-Town passes them through tech w/o a problem. I don't think my car got quieter from the bullets to the Dynatechs but I think the pitch changed, it became a bit deeper.

When I was an NA 422, I went from dual 3" bullets to 3" Borla XR1's. XR1's were great, the bullets sounded like open headers.

When I had blower, I ran dual 3" Magnaflow mufflers, sounded very good, louder than XR1's by a bit.

I'm currently running a 4" bullet but will be changing that out for a Dynatech splitflow muffler this bullet is gay loud.

This is one angle from behind. You can see the clearance I have when it's on the trailer.

http://www.derty.org/photogallery/details.php?image_id=330

I don't know of any others. In general there was about 3 to 4" of clearance at the lowest point. It was totally ok when street driving. You have to mount them further back to keep some ground clearance. If you do them right off the header you'll have far less clearance.

ground clearance looks like it would be the same as a bullet type. I was looking to go off the header but you're right, not much room under there unless you start messing with the floorpan.

I had those Magnaflows on my car off the headers and they sounded nothing like that. Your's sounds a lot better than mine did. On my car they sounded quieter, but also had a weird muffled farm truck sound :(

I have the 3" oval Borla XR1's off the headers now and they have a really nice sound to them, but they are louder than the Magnaflows. I wish the Magnaflows sounded better because I liked how much quieter they were.

Sorry for changing the subject guys but I have some bullets right off the headers dumped, my question is, is that it gets really hot down at my feet and I need to know what I can put down on the floorboard before I put carpet in? I am afraid it is too hot for the carpet.

your best bet would be to weld up some turndowns onto the ends of the bullets. i was always told that if you run the turndowns and angle them towards each other a bit, that it would cancel out a bit of sound, and atleast you are aiming the exhaust straight at the ground then.

I already have turndowns pointed down at the ground and it is still extremely hot on the floorboard of the car.
