Default Over kill??

Well i am building 2 motors here, one for road race and one for drag. I think i have the drag motor setup. For my road race setup I want to use my stock LS1 block.ARP upper and lower, mains, caps and heads, LS6 ported oil pump LS6 valley cover, lS6 intake ported tbody and 1 7/8 header ORY and magna flow, 38lbs injectors 255 intake pump, be cool rad, oil cooler. WIth the motor i have some question will this work, i have Diamond pistons pn11500. with 6.0l heads milled .015, Heads have been worked over pretty damn well, ill have flow number soon. But believe i was told 320@600, anyways i have a cam left over 244 248 612 618 on 112lsa. Will this cam be pointless?? im not trying to spin 8500rpm to make the power work, i need this motor to last. If i need to up grade intake or headers i can only do 1. i cant upgrade both. Well any advise would be great. thanks

For the road race motor, the stock pump and injectors (depending on the year) are fine. Hell the stock pistons and rods are fine. I would just have a good engine builder go thorugh a stock short block and rebuild it with better rod bolts, and install a 230 cam or less. As long as you kept the oil and water cool, itll live a long time.

Run as much compression as you can bottom line. If that is the cam you have to work with you will need to be in the powerband (ie 4500-7K) most of the time to take advantage of it. Make sure you put in some good springs and titanium retainers as they will take a pounding. An Accusump will be a good idea as well to maintain oil pressure in the event of the oil pickup becoming unconvered.

ARP or Katech rod bolts should be plenty as long as you don't spin it to the moon. 7K redline should be plenty.... the LS6 intake is a bottleneck up there anyway and no point in spinning it higher.

Remember the power is in the heads, cam, and compression ratio. Those 6.0 heads won't help your cause with running lots of compression.
