What Is the wear comparison on these. i need a nice sticky tire that i can DD through rain and shine. and what is the wear comparison on these. and which would grip on the street/track.

i will be using them on my stock 17" ws6 wheels so im assuming 275/40/17 would be the available size for each for my application.

let me know what you guys think

I am on my second set of Nittos. They lasted around 15k or so of pure hell before I took them off. They will no doubt be what your looking for. The MTs will hook ALOT better, but they will wear out extremely fast, and they aren't going to be good for rain either. For a daily driver, the Nittos will be the best choice.

I run the MT ET Street Radial and I think it is the best choice out there.
Handle great, hook extremely well, and will act decent in wet weather
conditions. I don't keep track of miles so I'm not sure how many miles
a set will produce compared to other brands. I have run nittos and they
don't seem to hook very good if you are making alot of power....

My Nittos have lasted a long time. They still have about 90% tread left and I have had them on for around 6000 miles of so. But I havent done any burnouts on them though. I take care of them so thats why they last.

nitto drag radials will easily last 15-18K miles if you dont beat on them constantly. mt radials wont last 1/4 of that milage. et streets (bias ply) might last 2K miles max and are not DD tires

damnn im not quite sure what to go with, i need to get tires soon and i can get them both at about ~155 a tire, for 275/40/17... but i heard the nitto's run thin, and thats what im scared about because i love the hook and look of the fat tire out back

I'm running 275s and they seem thinner than my front 275 street tires. That just seems scary tho. How do they handle on corners?

Did you see the above pic? I ran that set for close to 15k, and I am on another set that already has 2-3k on them. I go through some corners pretty hard and they've never felt awkward.

That's because they ARE thinner in section/tread width than almost any other tire of the same size out there (except for the street 555s, and maybe the Firehawk SZ50s). I've seen the 245/50 16s 555Rs on the back with the same size GSCs up front and it looks downright stupid (like 1.5-1.75" narrower than the GSCs!!).

I rolled on Nitto DRs 275/50/15 for a long time, and loved them. Better than expected wet weather traction for a daily driver. I got around 10K on them once I sold, and they still had great tread.

I also ran Nitto DRs on my 17" SS wheels.

I am running the MTs now, and wouldn't even try wet weather. I have heard some horror stories of them reacting to water very similar to an ET Street, which was a lot of fun.....not!

I would go with the Nittos. 275/40/17, or if you can squeeze them on, a 315/35, which is not recommended, but can be done

I've run both, and as far as I'm concerned, the MT's are strictly a good weather/track tire. They hook MUCH better than Nittos. But I would not want to get caught in the rain with them.

The Nittos are good in the rain as long as they have significant tread. They hook ok for street use if you are careful with the throttle. They are a good street/DD tire, although awful skinny, like everybody is saying.

its going to be a street tire, only daily driven in good weather. doesnt see rain much, but will see it sometimes. i would like them to last as close to a hard 10k-15k as possible. but that kind of rules the MT's out

You got more miles than me. 12k miles tops for daily driving if you want some margin of safety in the rain. I generally planned 8 - 10k from a set before they were track only use.

Stick with the Nitto's you'll be much happier as far as tread/tire life and usefulness. Don't get me wrong, I like the M.T. but it is a very soft compound and will not hold up as long for DD and street abuse...definately a better track tire. IMO

The 555R's narrow width also helps contribute to it's better rain performance (but of course most of that comes from the tread pattern/grooves). Also, most find that they get less crap picked up (and therefore less punctures/flats) with the harder Nittos over the gumball, nail, screw & shrapnel "magnet" M/Ts.
