I don't think the new Viper is getting the 600hp power bump. Please post if you know anything different. The C6 Z will be king of the hill for a bit longer :judge:

its about time...for a while i thought Dodge was being GM and not a trend setter....the big question is $90k for a 600hp Viper or $100k+ for a 600hp Vette? I think id spend the extra chump change on the vette...

Love the new VIPER with its 600 N/A ponies. Car is BAD AZZ in my opinion but I pretty much love any american muscle car capable of low 11 high 10 sec 1/4 mile ets stock from the factory with a warranty!! :drive: :chug: :drive:

06 Z06 will still take the 600 hp Viper. First off the 06 Z06 is makeing 450 to the wheels in factory form, so with a 12 percent drivetrain loss its making at least 520 or more at the flywheel. Its going to take more than 80 hp to make up for the weight difference, 50/50 weight distribution, aerodynamics , and so on. Z06 weight is 3100 pounds and the Viper with the new and improved model in 08 will be at least 3500 pounds. The stock Z06 goes 10s if you put a sticky tire on the back. The 600 hp viper will get close.

This reminds me of the 500 hp Shelby GT (Cobra) versus a 400 hp C6. The corvette wins.

You have to respect any of the car makers that will put anything out like these cars with this kind of horsepower. I remember the early 70's when all the powers that be, just killed performance car with low compression and all the smog crap. It is fun to have a choice again to be able to go buy a factory hotrod again!!

It takes a viper gen 2 or gen 3 490 rwhp to run dead even with a bone stock C6Z06...

So a gen 2 needs to add 80 rwhp while a gen 3 needs to add 50 rwhp to run dead even with a C6z06...

A 500 rwhp gen 2 or gen 3 Viper will pull a stock c6Z06...

600 crank HP minus the typical 9-12% drive train loss that the Viper has done for the past 14 years means that the new 2008 Viper should dyno from 525 -550 rwhp...

gen 1 400 HP vipers dynoed 365 rwhp on average..9% drive train loss

Gen 2 450HP vipers dynoed 410 rwhp on average...9% drive train loss

gen 3 510HP Vipers dynoed 440 rwhp on average...12% drive train loss

C6Z06 505HP dynos 455 rwhp on average....10% drive train loss

So at a 12% loss the 08 600HP Viper will dyno 528 rwhp ( about 30 more rwhp than it needs to pull a C6Z06)

at a 9% drive train loss the 08 600HP Viper will dyno 545 rwhp and give the Ford GT a very good run from 0-200 mph

Great bench racing calcs, but the C6Z06 beat the Ford GT and Viper in a very recent issue of motortrend. Weight matters....Add the fact that both will have 600hp and the vette wins easily in every category again.

The Viper will be more bang for the buck if the 600hp Z goes near 100k....I REALLY like that price.

I just read the new Motor Trend article about the 600 hp Viper. Bore was increased 1 mm to increase displacement to 8.4 liters. New ignition, new intake, better valvetrain allowing a 6400 rpm vs the old one set at 6000 r's. Not much else other then a revised air box. Just checked the article Re-Worked heads, larger valves, 23% more flow on intake, 12% more flow on the exhaust. A new dual disc clutch pack. Upgraded Venom Computer is faster and connects to OBD II. Lighter weight lifers, compression is increased from 9.6 to 1 to 10.2 to 1. 8.4 liter 600 hp 560 tq @ 5000 rpms. Lots of new little go fast innovations.

first the vipers dont make 500RWHP. were do you get this crap from. everything ive ever read had a bone stock 06 c6z smoke the 06 510hp vipers . even the shitty rags. since the viper is a fat pig, even with the new 600hp viper, i bet will run even with the feather light vette c6z. will see

The SS Zo6 is forcasted to have 650+ hp- SS > Viper

The 600hp Viper still looks like a new dodge stratus.

If I sold my soul... the Blue Devil would get my cash.

Out of 8.4 liters I'm not impressed. I'd much rather buy the Z and throw a cam and headers in it and have a much faster, more luxurious, and better sounding ride for less. The Z can cover this number N/A no problem with less cubes and less weight.

How much power do you think the Viper would pick up if you threw a cam and headers on ?? The best thing about the Viper is the AMAZING abount of Tq it makes all the way from idle. Now if Dodge can put it on a diet it might beat the almighty C6 Zo6................

New viper is cool, but all vipers are a handful on the race track, for now ill stick with the Zs and use the cumputer aids, IE comp driving mode

About the 500rwhp comment...

Gen 2's have 410 rwhp on average...Gen 3's have 440 rwhp on average..They NEED 490 rwhp to run dead even with a c6Z06 and 500 rwhp to pull on a C6Z06..

Nevever said they had 500 rwhp LOL...But Videos and 1/4 mile trapp speeds have proven that 490 rwhp is the magic number for a gen2/3 Viper to run dead even with a c6z06...

Even if the new gen4 viper is rated at 580 HP and looses 15% through the drive train....That would still come out to 493 rwhp...And run dead even with the c6Z06.

If it comes out with the so far advertised 600 HP and looses 10% through the drive train..It's gonna dyno 540 rwhp and rape the c6z06...

Time will tell...But as a viper owner of course Im rooting for the viper..It's been a hard 2006 having to admit to people that the 2006Z06 was faster than the 2003 Viper by a good 4 mph through the 1/4 mile.

Im hoping that the 2008 Viper vrs the 2006Z06 will turn the tables.

But was this really the first time the Vette has been on top?????

I know the gen 2 viper was around 3 tenths and 3 mph faster than the c5z06..

But what about the 1992 ZR1 vrs the 1992 Viper...Most mags have them in the low 13's at around 110 right?????

Anyone got any good links to see wich one really was faster?

?

i say it'll be a dead heat since the viper is much heavier, time will tell. :chug: its usually a 15% driveline loss through a stick

killemall,

maybe you could answer this, i was wondering the same. we all know that a stock 06z06 makes about 450-460rwhp, but we all know how well that same car responds to mods..... even if the new viper makes 500+ rwhp, i'd imagen all it would take for the new z06 to put it back in its place would be LT's and a tune..... those two things seem to put the z06 at about 500rwhp. add a cam in with the LT's and tune and i'd imagen the 06z06 will be making even that 600hp viper look like a bitch again.

so anyway, my question is the same allngn_c5, how does a viper respond to moods? as well as the LSX motors? will a simple exaust and cam and tune bring the same results?

I think your question was to Drewstein but let me take a crack at it. A large displacement motor really needs to have long tube headers. A viper could easily gain 50 rwhp and gobs more tq from a set of Long tubes and a good tune.

On my c5 FRC LG Motorsports Pro Longtube headers gave me in the area of 30+ rwhp and 40 rwtq. So imagine what an 8.4 liter Viper engine now sporting 10.2 to 1 compression could do with that kind of exhaling ability. It could only help.

I love my C6, and I already know what a 600+ HP Corvette feels like with it. But, that Viper still looks badass too. Anyone that says otherwise must be blind. Gawk factor, the Viper will always trump the Corvette, simply because there are fewer cruising around. 99% of the population can't tell the difference between a base model Corvette and the Z06 Corvette. Everyone knows what a Viper is, they don't really make a base model.

saw it today. an ESTIMATED 600 flywheel hp.....and 3400lbs.

No big deal other then a large number. Loose some weight...i'll be impressed.

The gen 2 GTS is SO much better looking than the Gen 3s IMO.....the only thing I dont like about the Gen 2's is the horrible body panel alignment which is probably easy enough to correct yourself.

Vipers are cool, but haven't they been talking about survival, meaning they are selling so poorly that they might not last too much longer?
I'll bet the C6 Z06 is out selling them by far? and they are offering all kinds of discounts to try and un load all the inventory, with prices about the same between the two. I'll be moving on to a C6 Z06 soon, so much better, even if 600hp was offered with the Viper. If I was rich, I would have one of each.

I agree that the c6Z06 is the better bang for the buck by far..But on the other hand I turn more heads and get more complimentss on my old 99 Viper in one week than i did in the two years of owning my modded interior/exterior 2004 C5...

So just depends on what you want..My 99 viper also handles quite a bit better than my C5 did...

But the c5 was a car I could drive 100 miles in and feel comfortable the whole way like i was driving a lexus. The Viper feels like im seriously driving a race car and even a 20 mile trip can feel tedious.

As far as the viper responding to mods comment...

Mine dynoed 410 rwhp/465rwt bone stock....With only an air intake($60)..No cats (300)..and 1.7 roller rockers (1000$)im expecting to put down a minimum of 440 rwhp/495rwt....

With heads and cam the gen two 8.0 litre vipers dyno 520-600 rwhp depending on your combination..

not sure about the gen3's though...but id expect even more out of the 8.3 litre...

the vetts are far more (relaxing) when you are driving.but for sheer joy of being in a street brawler, the viper takes it hands down.

ah. thanks for the information on the modded vipers. i just didnt know how they responded to mods. lol, sounds like they respond just like the LS1.
