Ram powergrip HD guys come on in....
Did a lot of research and I think this is the clutch I'm going to go with. I have looked at all the post here about it and there are very few bad things that I can find. Unfortunately all of the threads I have looked at are pretty ancient. Any of you guys out there that have run this for a while care to enlighten me on the pros and cons of it. What kind of power are you putting down? How bad have you beaten it? How long has it lasted? I'll probably be running a resurfaced flywheel to save a lil $. Thanks!

I have one in right now and like it. Bites hard and doesn't chatter much. Haven't done any hard launches on it cause I don't have cash for a new rear. I'm also not running any spacers but I do have an adjustable master cylinder.... Numbers in sig.

I put 440/488 with an STS kit and now im probably right around 400 rwhp with my new set up. Ive had it on for about 5000 miles and it is slipping. When I had the turbo on it would push oil out of the rear main and I think it may have got a little on the clutch. We'll see when i take it out. I do have to say the it grabs hard on a launch and have never had a problem with it slipping at the track launching at around 4 to 5k (it will only slip now in 4th 5th or 6th at low RPMs i can actually still launch it pretty good in its current condition without it slipping...its kinda wierd). Mine does chatter though it kinda sucks in that aspect, but you can't have everything your way and when I put 4.11's in it a lot of the chatter went away. I will probably get another one because it does grab like a SOB

When you installed did you have the flywheel resurfaced or use a new unit? Did you have to adjust the master or was it close to stock?
Phillymu: would you say that it chatters bad? Because my car is used mainly on the street with an occassional trip to the track, I don't want severe chatter.

if you drive it enough you will learn how it works. My experience is that it is an on/off clutch, doesnt liked to be slipped at all. IMO I would put up with the chatter for the performance you get. I DD my car and it isnt too bad.

I had a RAM 910/VDS PP setup with Fidanza alum flywheel and 3:90's in my n/a LS1 with cam/heads/headers making 440rwhp. It would require some rev's from a stop and slipping the clutch out in order to not get chatter. Once you learn to drive it it isn't that bad. The pedal effort is heavy and stop/go traffic is a workout and not pleasant.
If you have under 500rwhp I would simply get an LS7 clutch/flywheel. Great driveability and can hold the power for a cost effective price.
I went with a Textralia twin disk on my next setup (575rwhp LS7). Light pedal feel I hear and can easily hold the power.

I had my stock fly wheel resurfaced. The chatter is not unbearable for a daily driver. If you're already putting down 400+hp on your daily driver then I guarantee this clutch won't bug you

I am estimating around 450 rwhp as of now. It will not be a DD by any means but, it will be a street oriented car. Sounds like this clutch will work very well with my application. I have to be honest though, an on off switch clutch doesn't really tickle my fancy. I have looked into Ls7 clutches, the only problem I see with them is track use. I have read a couple posts were people glaze the clutches very easily at the track as it is a street clutch. I have looked at spec but with their reputation, who knows what to expect. I have honestly considered a tex-t but, it's kinda overkill with my setup and a lil bit pricey as well. From what I have read the powergrip (non HD) is a more street friendly clutch but, it is not good for 450 whp. I honestly wish that I knew more about the zoom HP series clutch because that could be a viable option. As of right now though, the powergrip HD (disregarding the on off likeness) seems to be the clutch that fits the bill. If anyone has some serious quandries with this clutch setup, please let me know before I buy it.

From what I have read, as long as you have 01+ hydraulics you'll be fine. I'm assuming that the only time you need an adjustable master is when you resurface your flywheel and don't use a shim. I'm just wondering how long my 10 bolt will hold out without being able to slip the clutch.

Mine chattered some with the 3.42's , it was funny watching the pass seat shake .. its a hardcore clutch. I now have a 9'' 4.11 gears and have no more chatter. Barks 4th . My pedal isnt much more than it was stock . Ive been stuck in traffic jams with it . Its good to go.

I have the HD in my 01 that only makes 340rwhp for daily driving and 450rwhp on the juice. I have had it in for wow.... 13,000 miles now. I race the car atleast 5 times a week and beat on it even when there are no other people around, lol. 150-200 1/8+ mile runs, tons of burnouts, no problems, still chirps 1-4 like it always has.
It took a good 1000 miles before I got used to the clutch as it does grab pretty low off the floor. It took like 5000 miles of beating before the chatter eased up, it doesn't do it much anymore but still grabs hard. I did a new slave and resurfaced the stock flywheel. I drive my car 100 miles round trip for work now and love the clutch, i plan on adding a cam to make over 500 on the juice and plan on using this clutch well through then.

I have had my ram HD in for about 8k miles. I make 425 at the wheels. The kit came with a shim for the slave and I put that in, and thats it, still using the GM master (on a 98). Resurfaced my fly .040 and no shim behind that and its working flawlessly. It is a little rough with a cam and 3.42s but 4.10s fix that problem

I love my Ram Powergrip HD
I did the drill mod, crosshatched the flywheel, and used the provided spacer. No shim here because I crosshatched it.
It drives pretty good for a "big" clutch and I would recommend it to anyone.
I've had it in about 6 weeks and put about 300-400 miles on it with dozens of WOT on the street. Hasn't missed a beat.
