Replaced the fuel pump last due to bad sending unit.

I went to Auto Zone and got it scaned
This is the code --
PO442 - Evaporative Emission Control System leak detected (small leak)
the gas cap has been replaced 2 time in 4 years .
Does the seal go bad in these gas caps ?

Oh, I just thought of something.
A buddy of mine said he gets a code ( I believe that one) because of his
pump R&R because the pump lockring is not seated well, possibly because
he bent the tabs on the tank and it is not sealing positively,
or the o-ring below it needed to be replaced.
