Default Safety wire on cam bolts?

Hey guys,

I recently had to do an engine rebuild because of the bolts holding the cam gear backing out on me. I've heard of several other cases where they were Loc-Tite'd and torqued appropriately but they backed out anyway. I run my engine pretty hard, so I'm concerned about this happening again.

Is there any reason I couldn't safety wire a couple of the bolts?

red loctite, or green and 26 ft. lbs, should be good enough.

What about using ARP bolts? Should they have a different torque spec? There was no literature with them indicating as such.

I looked around for the loctite with the highest heat rating... I havnt had a problem since the first time they backed out. Got at least 20K miles on my current H/C. Make sure you hit the bolts and threaded holed with brake cleaner to make sure they're dry and the loctite can grab well.

I used laquer(sp?) thinner on 'em. I hope that was good enough.

Anything to cut the grease. Should be fine.

ARP with Red Loctite here as well, it is recommended for cam gears and the heat capability is likely why it is over the blue 242. No problems here, although I have never tried to get it apart either.
