Default What Tranny ?????

i am in the process of getting parts together for the LSX when it comes out. im doing a 447 cubic inch with a F1R at 22 lbs of boost. what trans would you recommend and what size stall do you think would be good? i was thinking a turbo 400 with about a 4000 stall. your input would be very helpful.

im in alabama... it better be nasty for all the money i will have in it.. will be mostly strip. but i will also have a larger pulley so i can have fun with it on the street without all the boost. that engine on 8-10 psi should destroy most street cars around here anyway.

With an f1r on there, I'd suspect that you'll be looking to make south of 800 rwhp... don't waste yout time with anythign other then a th400 or a powerglide.

i was kinda hoping with a 447 cubic inch with 22-26 lbs of boost i would make about 1000 to the ground.. i was thinking about the turbo 400 do any of you have a link to a speedshop that will sell a trans already assembled? thx for your help.

with that kind of power #'s.. you may want to consider a glide at that point. i don't think you'll have a problem getting the car moving out of the hole... and at that power level, even a th400 isn't really enough, you'll fry 2nd gear out of it rather quick.

As for who can build you a tranny to meet your goals.. pick one, ther's alot. I'm personally runnign a th400 built by Hughes, and I have had no issues.. but I'm not making anywhere near the power you're aiming for. Hell I'm not quite to 1/2 your goal #... at least not until the bottle goes in... and even then, I'll probably only be at about 70% of your goal LOL.

final ratio in a glide is 1 to 1 like 3rd in a th400.. so gear the same, I assume this is a mostly track setup.. so gear for as fast as you plan to go I guess. Probably 3.55 would be a good place to start, I'd think that motor should trap well into the 150's if not more once the car is hooking right.

As for the converter, I'd give lenny at ultimate converter a call, or look into a neil chance, with the power you are plannign on making, you're already spending a good bit of $, no sense in putting a cheap converter behind it.
