new 6.0l in a 68 chevelle
Hello,
questions for the minds.
I just started my engine for the first time tonight, does not run correct, won't idle.
First let me tell you about it 6.0 truck engine 4l60e, the guy who programmed the computer said he needed to use a 5.3 program to work the trans, i am not to sure so i said go ahead i just want it to run for now and i will worry about h.p and torque later.
So i started it tonight and it wont idle, if i hold the throttle 1/8 open it will run and pop a little (through exhaust) surge a little too.
the code i got is a p1336 which say it needs to learn the crank pos again,
I thought the pcm would do that by itself.
any helpm would be greatly appreciated.
thanks Eric

i've often heard about computers having to relearn and thought that was kinda bogus( i mean it should at least run on its own right?) and then i did a head gasket for a friend on a 99 buick w/ a 3.1 and the battery had been disconected for like 4 days, and when i was done i went to start it and it wouldn't even start let alone stay running untill i gave it a little gas an then it shook real bad. after about 20 seconds it stayed runnin on its own, but real ruff. i was standing there confused checking if i mixed up some wires or something and called my buddy. he starts telling me it needs to learn, im telling no way , this things running WAY too bad and as im on the phone with the idle smooths out and rev it up a few times runs perfect. moral of the story is , even though i had heard the "it needs to relearn" line before and thought it couldnt be that......i was wrong. so it might just need to relearn.

the guy who programmed my computer uses tuner cat and apparently he does not have a 6.0 4l60e tune, only a 5.3 4l60e tune so he used that one

Hmm if this is the area I am thinking of sounds like somebody didn't clean out the headbolt holes before torquing them down which resulted in a cracked block. Usually this is more of a problem with aluminum blocks but it could happen on iron as well.

THE leak is a constant drip while idleing, i plan on installing the driveshaft saturday and at least drive it around the block to prove out the trans.
then pull the engine and inspect the crack further, a friend of mine that works for honda said the honda blocks crack, they have a type of epoxy, that i might try temporarly, i want a new block for sure
