ok i searched and search isnt working.....well im seriously thinking about putting a cam in my car by the end of this yr...well first off i was thinking cam only...but is it reliable or will i need heads as well???? i know theres a bunch of cam only cars on here ive seen threads beafore....my current mods are on my sig...if i was goign to go with the cam only which will be best??? i know thats a long shot but my car gets about 50 -60 miles a week..i want it to be streetable....and reliableas well...will i need a stall?? sorry guys fo rthe questions but im a newb when it comes to internals...

G'day there mate. I drove a Holden Commodore (LS1) with a Comp 222/224@112lsa cam and 3600 stall the other day and all I can say is woohoo!

It is a seriously quick package and has all the manners needed for the street. (MY preference would be for a 2800-3000 stall, but that would be the only change I'd make to it.)

The Commodores over here weigh in at around 1700kg+ and I have no doubt that a low 12-second or high 11 is on the cards for this car. It maintains at least 28mpg on lean cruise (60 - 70mph) on the highway.

if you stay at a 224 or below your factory stall will be fine. Anything bigger you will want a bigger stall. Honestly if you want good reliability i would not go with the xer lobes. Many people run them with no problems but in fact they are harder on the valvetrain than the regular lobe.

If you're going to hit the track once in a while, or do a little street racing, you'll want a stall.
How high to go is upto you.

I bought a 3200 vig and I'm itching to get it installed!

can you explain what you mean y xer lobes??? like mentioned above im pretty new to internals....

i keep hearing ppl use a tr224 cam....

keep in mind that i want to keep my stock heads...

also i my car has not seen the track...since ive owned it..but i do get into qa street race evryonce ina while...

i had my car tuned a few wks ago and i talked to the guy at the shop about cam only.. didnt really get in to details as far as what cam but he quoted me around $1,500 or so for cam and labor...

i wanted to get all the info down so that i can save some cash and hope fully get it done either summer or fall of this yr.

They are tamer at idle but more aggressive when climbing the rpms. More aggressive ramp rates.

I believe most of the thunderracing cams are XER lobes

Isnt the ramp rate "smoother" under say 2000-2500rpms then a non xer lobes and then become more aggressive over 2500-3000rpms?
