Default What diameter rod to use to hold up lifters, 1/4" or 5/16"

Search is not working for me, sorry to ask something that has probably been asked before.
What size rod to use to slide into block to hold the lifters up? A friend of mine used 1/4" or 5/16", he couldn't remember.

Thanks, James.

Nope, I just used 5/16 solid metal rod and slid them through the hole while spinning the cam.

I think I have used the 1/4. No grinding.

Sounds good. I had done pen magnets before, but either I forgot or the price went up, cause they were $3/magnet...ouch.
I will get the 5/16 to be on the safe side.
Thanks for the help guys!!
