Well you can install another lifter and call it a day, however without taking the cam out it's going to be hard to judge how bad the cam is damaged. You lucked out this time, but next time it could cause your piston and valve to make sweet sweet love.

Pull it out and inspect it. I had a similar problem when a lifter broke on my old setup. I polished the lobe and it was fine. You dont want to be pulling the motor down the road for a complete rebuild because of a lifter. If metal shavings get in the bottom end it will score the crank and destroy the bearings. It can get expensive.
What exactly happened to the lifter? You might wanna investigate that so it doesnt happen again.

To sum up, If you try and reuse a bad cam, expect to have to pull the heads again. You might make it 1000 miles, you might make it 15K, but chances are whatever killed your first lifter will kill again, and so will the pitting.

i dont know how the lifter came apart...the clip came off and i believe the clip is now sitting in the oiiil pan because i ran the car for quite a long time and the rest of the parts were in the plastic cup. What do you guys think could have caused this problem to happen...i want dont want this happen again. So should i just pull the cam out and put a new one in or rip the whole engine apart?
