Default Is this 68 Firebird worth it?

Hey, my friends dad is trying to sell his 68 Firebird and I love the looks of them but I dont really have alot of extra money with keeping my car running and still being in HS and all.

Anyways about the car the good,

Whole new front end put on on it (suspension and stuff like that)

All glass ,interior, trim and lights are there and in good condition

Body is in excellent condition

Clear title

Reallllly reallly reallly cheap for a 68

Now for the bad,

Needs the whole floor pan,

Needs the rear end hung which is a Ford 9in just needs installed

Needs a motor and tranny and paint

How much does he want for it, do you have a place to store, work on car, tools, and time to complete the job? If not then this might not be something that you want to get your self into. But i love the way those cars look too and im thinking about getting something like it. Good luck

Any pics?

If the body, trim, etc. is as nice as you say it is then yeah that's a good price. Floor pans can be replaced....especially if you're getting the car for $500.

Source out an LSX motor and slap it in that bad boy

agreed $500 is a good deal but would need to see picts to be sure. If your friends are willing to help then go for it. You can get a complete ls1 and tranny for about $2500-3000. It already has a 9" rear so if you think you will have allot of time then go for it.

500 is worth it. I'd say get an old school 400 or 455 with an M22 though.

Yea if I get it its going to be pure Pontiac power, its an old pontiac that came with a REAL poncho engine therefore it should have one. Not hating on the LSx's.

its a ton of work, i mean a ton. if you cannot be dedicated to learning how to do things, letting people bitch at you for doing things wrong. this is not the car for you. i tried working on my 69, but my stepdad was a pain in the butt. and it never got off the ground like i wanted. you can get weld in floor pans for like 80-150 a side. is it just the shell of the car? is there a trunk, how much rust is underneath the paint and body. for those parts its worth it for $500 but, your looking at $5000 at least to get it running and all setup. thats a conservative number. sometimes you can score deals on new parts or used setups. i dont think i have any parts left for my 69 that got junked.

go to the gallery in my sig and look for 67 bondo deluxe. It's a project car I've been working on. It's a 67 bird. I update the gallery about every few weeks, it's a good preview of what you'll be going through if you buy it.

Sweet '67! The '68 im looking at is in much better condition than how yours started out the story on it is that my friends dad bought it from a guy in Cumberland MD out of the Paper which is true because when it was in the paper I called about and got alot of info, I guess the guy went through got all the rust off, fixed the body, new suspension under the front and just lost interest. Same with the current owner he just dosent want a car, he just bought an 06 Cummins so he just wants it gone. Maybe I can get some pics in awhile I dont know how long that will take on the count of my car is broked down.

My dad actually had a 68 back in the day but ended up flipping it end over end when the front end lifted off the ground luckily he had a roll cage installed.
