How to create an online community
This site obviously has a flourishing online community.
I was wondering what it took to even establish a online community. People will not register on a forum that has low activity. You can not get high activity unless you get people to register. This is the very reason most attempts at a giant online community doesn't succeed. This site obviously did, what was done to create high traffic?
The second is what keeps people coming back.
Just wondering.

I'm not sure how I came accross this site, it was a long time ago, but I come back at least once a week, perhaps many times a day depending on the discussion.
I think i origianaly done a search in google for a problem I had, I found the answer here and came back.
I think perhaps you need to talk to yourself in the forum to build it up, sounds strange I know, but build in some useful content, someone may come accross it in a search and may keep coming back.
I have a forum thats been going from April 2006, Solent Renegades Forum its for our local car club, however not many people have posted, and hopeing it will pick up. We have many members in the car club, but not all have computer access.
I would say just keep at it, word of mouth is a good start. Get your freinds to post, get your freinds to tell others. Hopefully you will build a sucessful comunity.
LS1Tech is probably the main foruk I keep on visiting, there is probably other forums that are LS1 orientated, but I'm happy here. So thats once thing you may come up against, if you are competing against a popular site even if you do get a couple of them to check out your site they are probably happy where they are.
Good luck anyway.
Dan.
