Default Whining noise after hard turns

I was screwing off in a parking lot doing donuts and some pretty hard turns etc. Almost right away my car started to make a whining noise from the engine bay. I drove off and it was still present and would get louder when I turned then after a few miles it was gone. What is it?

yup this happened to me. It will go away and show up again if u turn hard, if you turn really hard the power steering will lock up. I took it to carmax with my warrenty and they had to change the rack and pinion setup. They found metal flakes in the power steering fluid. Thank you warrenty only cost me 50 bucks. I don't mean to scare you but chances are thats it. i was also doing donuts in the mall parking lot when i heard the first whine it was loud and then it went away. but the damage was done

I have never done any donuts in this car and I really haven't even turned it that hard (since I'm trying to avoid major problems). Right now, my PS makes that whining sound on just about every turn, but it's only on turns, not constantly as I'm driving.

I opened the reservoir for the fluid, and I could see it in there, but I don't know what the proper level is and couldn't see if it was dark or not since I didn't have a flashlight handy.

Thoughts?
